Peer Specialist - ACCS

About the role

You will serve as a Peer Specialist within the Adult Community Clinical Services (ACCS) division, working directly with adults experiencing severe and persistent mental illness. This role centers on delivering person-centered, evidence-based interventions in residential and community-based environments. You will champion recovery principles by empowering individuals to exercise autonomy and self-advocacy in all aspects of their lives. You will build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with both clients and interdisciplinary team members to ensure a collaborative approach. A key responsibility is to support individuals in developing personalized recovery plans and self-management strategies. You will actively participate in treatment planning and ensure that every intervention respects cultural competence and individual preferences. Through consistent advocacy and education, you will promote hope and facilitate the transition toward independence and community integration.

What you'll do

Empower persons with mental illness to exercise autonomy and assist them in identifying choices and developing self-advocacy skills.

Collaborate with other team members to ensure that the person's perspective is always included and that their choices are maximized.

Provide training and consultation to staff to facilitate a deep understanding of person perspectives as needed.

Guide persons in the recovery journey by offering advocacy, support, and education during intake and transition processes across the full spectrum of services.

Assist persons with identifying personal methods of recovery from mental illness and developing self-management plans to address their experiences.

Promote hope and empowerment through meetings and support, ensuring that person preferences are recognized and choices are maximized.

Participate actively in the development of treatment plans by assisting persons in communicating their personal recovery goals.

Ensure all services are culturally competent, strengths-based, recovery-based, and focused on rehabilitation while respecting person preferences.

Maintain a person-centered approach where all interventions are developed and provided in a manner consistent with individual preferences.

Support the implementation of evidence-based practices within the ACCS division to enhance clinical outcomes.

Foster a supportive team environment through knowledge sharing and consultation with multidisciplinary staff.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery by providing feedback grounded in lived experience.

Assist in navigating systems to ensure seamless transitions and access to necessary resources.

Demonstrate commitment to the mission of resilience, empowerment, and lasting change within the community.

Requirements

Must have received mental health services in the past and possess self-knowledge to manage their mental illness and an established recovery process.

Must hold a High School diploma or equivalent.

Must be a Certified Peer Specialist or commit to obtaining certification within six months of hire.

Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license.

Must be able to reliably commute to the Danvers location.

Must maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions with clients and team members.

Must comply with all organizational policies and procedures related to clinical practice and ethical conduct.

Must demonstrate the capacity to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Must be prepared to engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Must meet the eligibility requirements for employment within the state mental health system.

Must pass any required background checks and reference verifications.

Must be dedicated to a recovery-oriented philosophy and person-centered care.

Nice to have

Prior experience providing training or consultation to clinical staff.

Experience working within a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Practical notes

This role operates on a Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm schedule.

Candidates must have reliable transportation to the Danvers location.
