About the role
EarnIn provides real-time financial tools to help people manage their money between paychecks without traditional fees or credit checks. We are seeking a senior engineer to join our payroll services team to develop the backend and frontend components of our new time and attendance product. You will own the design and implementation of critical features that directly impact how users interact with their earned wages. This position requires you to translate ambiguous product requirements into robust technical solutions while maintaining a high standard of code quality. You will be responsible for ensuring that the systems you build are reliable, scalable, and performant under varying loads. Collaboration with cross-functional partners will be essential to align technical constraints with business objectives. You will play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and establishing best practices across the team. Your work will contribute directly to the reliability and user experience of EarnIn's core financial platform.

What you'll do
- Architect and construct core features for the time and attendance system using a test-driven approach.
- Write backend services and APIs using Golang while building frontend interfaces with ReactJS and TypeScript.
- Partner with product managers and designers to execute end-to-end feature delivery from conception to production.
- Maintain and scale backend microservices to ensure high availability and efficient resource utilization.
- Perform root cause analysis on production incidents to identify patterns and improve system stability.
- Review code across the full stack to maintain high quality, security, and adherence to project standards.
- Ensure all software features are delivered according to project schedules and stakeholder expectations.
- Integrate third-party APIs and services to extend the functionality of the payroll and time tracking systems.
- Optimize application performance for faster load times and reduced server resource consumption.
- Implement monitoring and logging solutions to gain visibility into application behavior and user interactions.
- Collaborate with DevOps engineers to streamline the deployment pipeline and improve release frequency.
- Explore emerging technologies and propose innovations that can enhance the user experience and engineering efficiency.
- Document technical designs and processes to ensure knowledge sharing and continuity across the team.
- Support the continuous improvement of the codebase by refactoring legacy components when necessary.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of professional software development experience in a production environment.
- Bachelor degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience that demonstrates deep technical competency.
- Proficiency in building web applications with modern backend languages like Go, C#, or Python and frontend frameworks such as React and TypeScript.
- Practical experience with relational databases including schema design, query optimization, and complex joins.
- Experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS, including services like EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda.
- Ability to manage infrastructure using configuration as code tools like Terraform, Helm, or Kustomize to ensure consistency across environments.
- Experience deploying and operating services within Kubernetes environments including cluster management and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or ChatGPT to enhance productivity and code quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with distributed teams and stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle including version control, CI/CD pipelines, and agile methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations to support production issues as they arise.
- Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code that adheres to industry best practices.
Practical notes
This role is full-time and offers the option to work remotely or in a hybrid setup based in Mexico City, Mexico. Candidates may be required to travel to EarnIn's headquarters in Mountain View, California for periodic meetings or planning sessions.
