What you'll do

You chart intake workflows for Gemini Assistant across web, mobile, and embedded contexts. You design build pipelines that integrate system instructions and multimodal inputs into reliable UI patterns. You lead review sessions with engineers and researchers to validate concepts before high fidelity execution. You ship interaction models that balance AI possibility with clear, predictable user control. You establish long term partnerships with teams across Google to align roadmaps and surface opportunities. You translate research advances into interface experiments that clarify value for diverse users worldwide. You define design systems tailored to probabilistic AI, ensuring consistency across surfaces and contexts. You measure outcomes through structured prototypes and iterate based on observed user behavior.

Role context and team

The Gemini App Design team builds the Gemini Universal Assistant, the conversational AI that people around the world use to collaborate with generative AI to fuel their imagination, expand their curiosity, and enhance their productivity. The team is dedicated to developing the world's useful generative AI experiences. At Google DeepMind, the mission is to unlock state of the art artificial intelligence capabilities across Alphabet, creating positive impact and magical product experiences for billions of users. The Integrated Assistance team contributes to making Gemini a personalized universal assistant that is natively present across devices and apps. This team unlocks useful generative AI experiences through deep OS and app integrations, including quick access Android overlay, embedded app entry points, and novel screen context capabilities. They shepherd the largest volume surfaces in Gemini and guide users to understand the value of generative AI, including unique capabilities outside of the full screen Gemini app. The team is global, with designers based in Europe and the US, and engineering and product partners in those locations as well as India. They partner closely with other UX designers in the Gemini App team, including research and modelling.

Responsibilities

You architect intuitive AI experiences, leading the design of user interfaces and consumer experiences for Gemini across diverse platforms and modalities, ensuring natural and efficient interaction. You contribute to product strategy and manage stakeholders, using strong communication skills to collaborate with Product, Engineering and influence relevant stakeholders to define product strategy and influence key cross functional decisions that drive positive user outcomes. You innovate through user centered design, translating user needs, technical understanding and business requirements into groundbreaking design solutions that amplify people's capabilities and enrich their lives. You apply a systems thinking approach to design user interfaces, understanding the impact of individual components and features on the overall AI powered experience, optimized for AI's probabilistic nature and multimodal capabilities. You craft visually compelling interfaces, creating high fidelity visual designs, encompassing layouts, typography, color palettes, and iconography that are aesthetically pleasing and highly usable. You design engaging interactions and fluid interfaces, utilizing tools like Origami Studio, Principle, and Protopie, and create motion designs that enhance user experience and effectively communicate complex information. You bridge design and technology, leveraging technical understanding to use system instructions and diverse prototyping methods.

Requirements

You hold five or more years of experience in AI or product design on consumer platforms. You demonstrate a track record of designing interfaces for large scale AI products. You communicate clearly with engineers, researchers, and executives using varied formats and audiences. You navigate ambiguity while maintaining a strong point of view and delivering concrete results.

Nice to have

Experience working on assistant products that span multiple devices and modalities is valued.
