Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack

About the role

I am Paul, VP of Engineering at Customer.io, and I am seeking curious, driven Fullstack Product Engineers who want to own big things and deliver delightful experiences to our customers. In this role, you will design, construct, and deploy the core product experiences that thousands of companies rely on to communicate with their audiences every day. You will own problems end to end, moving fast and acting like an owner while helping the team push the boundaries of what great communication tools can achieve. You will leverage modern technologies including Go, React, and Ember, alongside AI agents, to ship features rapidly and scale with confidence. This is an opportunity to build the foundation of our platform while mentoring others and raising the bar for how software is built and shipped.

What you'll do

• Build fullstack features using Go, React, and Ember that power essential customer workflows and user journeys.
• Collaborate closely with product designers, data analysts, and other engineers to translate ideas into shipped customer value quickly and reliably.
• Share knowledge and elevate the team by publishing progress publicly through short videos, thoughtful writing, and active mentorship.
• Drive the evolution of our systems architecture to support growing numbers of customers, higher message volumes, and new use cases over time.
• Use AI agents to plan multi-file changes, craft precise prompts, and verify outputs to improve development speed and code quality.
• Own the complete lifecycle of features from initial design through implementation, testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring.
• Partner with customer support and success teams to understand real-world issues and turn feedback into technical improvements.
• Write testable, performant code that maintains high standards for reliability, scalability, and security across the entire stack.

Requirements

• Bring 7 or more years of experience building and scaling backend services and product-facing features in production environments.
• Demonstrate fluency in TypeScript, React or similar frontend libraries, and at least one statically typed backend language such as Go.
• Show a strong commitment to frontend polish, backend performance, and the overall end-to-end customer experience.
• Exhibit deep proficiency with RESTful and GraphQL APIs, relational databases, and writing code that is both testable and performant.
• Maintain a bias for action over perfection, taking pride in technical decisions and seeing initiatives through to completion.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment while still delivering high-quality results with minimal supervision.
• Communicate clearly and constructively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across distributed teams.
• Adhere to best practices while remaining open to better, faster ways of solving problems that benefit our customers.

Nice to have

• Experience contributing to open source projects or publishing reusable libraries and tools.
• Background in building or consuming AI-assisted development workflows and prompt engineering for software tasks.
• Familiarity with compliance and security best practices for handling customer data in regulated environments.
• Prior work in SaaS platforms serving enterprise customers at scale.
• Knowledge of modern frontend frameworks beyond React, such as Ember, and their integration patterns.
• Experience with observability, monitoring, and structured logging to drive data-informed improvements.

Practical notes

This role is based in the Americas and is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere within the region. We operate on a salaried, exempt basis with a standard 40-hour work week, though flexibility is encouraged to support deep work and collaboration across time zones. Travel is not required for this position, and we do not sponsor visas at this time.
