About the role
You own the full in-store customer journey from first hello to final farewell, shaping every moment of the culinary experience for guests and teammates. You own the execution of store operations as Manager on Duty, driving sales, service excellence, and team alignment with the brand promise. You own the development of your team, providing in-the-moment coaching and feedback that elevates performance, engagement, and retention. You own the interpretation and execution of company standards, ensuring policies and procedures are clearly communicated and consistently followed by all associates. You own the partnership with the General Manager or Store Manager, actively supporting the achievement of store goals and strategic initiatives. You own the response to customer needs, resolving concerns with speed and care to protect satisfaction and loyalty. You own the stewardship of product knowledge, staying current on offerings and training to inspire confidence in every guest interaction. You own the data behind the performance, tracking key KPIs like sales volume, transaction value, and conversion to identify opportunities and drive results.

What you'll do
Drive daily store operations as the Manager on Duty, leading the sales floor and ensuring consistent execution of standards.
Provide in-the-moment coaching and feedback to elevate associate performance and team engagement, escalating issues directly to General Manager or Store Manager.
Support the onboarding, training, and development of new associates to build a strong, capable team.
Represent Sur La Table's brand and culture by designing memorable, educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and long-term customer loyalty.
Maintain deep product expertise by actively participating in training and independently pursuing resources to stay current.
Champion a guest-obsessed culture, ensuring exceptional customer experiences at every touchpoint.
Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly to preserve satisfaction, trust, and loyalty.
Support the attainment of store sales goals through meaningful customer engagement and motivated team performance.
Identify and maximize selling opportunities by uncovering customer needs and recommending relevant solutions.
Consistently meet or exceed monthly sales targets, contributing to overall store revenue and key performance indicators.
Perform inventory tasks such as receiving, MOS (Mark Out of Stock), and RARs (Return Authorization Requests) with accuracy and care.
Ensure appropriate merchandise stock levels and that the selling floor is properly stocked and displayed according to visual standards.
Adhere to all applicable wage and hour laws, accurately recording time worked in line with SLT Policy.
Model and enforce compliance with Sur La Table policies and standard operating procedures across all shifts.
Physically navigate the store environment to coach associates, engage customers, and retrieve merchandise from stockroom or sales floor areas.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance, working a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays within the specified 20 to 25 hour range.
Requirements
Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment.
Bring 1 year of retail management experience, preferably within a specialty or culinary retail environment.
Demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, develop, and retain a high performing team.
Exhibit excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in all situations.
Show a genuine passion for community engagement and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
Display proficiency in Microsoft Office and retail management systems, which is preferred for success in this role.

Understand and follow all company policies, procedures, and compliance standards as part of daily responsibilities.

Practical notes
Workweeks are expected to be between 20 and 25 hours with the ability to have a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Candidates must be able to ascend and descend ladders to retrieve or move merchandise as needed.
