About the role
Crusoe is seeking a Safety Engineer to integrate safety protocols into the design, manufacturing, and field deployment of modular power distribution and electronics infrastructure. You will act as the primary safety authority, collaborating with engineering teams to ensure that electrical and machine safety standards are met from initial concept through final installation.

What you'll do
- Participate in design reviews by analyzing 3D models and technical specifications to detect hazards early in the product lifecycle.
- Manage technical safety initiatives, specifically focusing on electrical safety, machine guarding, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Perform risk assessments and hazard analyses, including FMEA and FTA, on facility systems and hardware.
- Create and manage safety documentation, such as compliance reports, hazard logs, and safety cases.
- Verify that all designs and facilities adhere to regulatory standards including OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEC, and UL listings.
- Oversee Process Safety Management (PSM) elements as they relate to equipment and operations.
- Work alongside Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to embed safety requirements into operational workflows.
- Conduct site inspections and safety walkthroughs at company locations and customer sites.
- Prepare safety reports for management, regulatory agencies, and clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in interpreting complex technical schematics, drawings, and specifications.
- Practical knowledge of safety regulations and standards such as OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEC, and ISO.
- Ability to apply first principles to solve complex engineering safety problems.
- Strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting to diverse stakeholders.
- Participation in a drug and alcohol program is mandatory due to the safety-sensitive nature of this role.
Nice to have
- Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE).
- Background in data centers, power distribution, or complex electrical systems.
- Experience with functional safety standards like IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or IEC 60204.
- Experience managing Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.

Crusoe draws its identity from the iconic English adventure novel published by Daniel Defoe on April 25, 1719. This foundational text is frequently credited with creating the realistic fiction genre. The story follows a main character named Robinson Kreutznaer who spends twenty-eight years stranded on an isolated tropical desert island near Venezuela and Trinidad. His long journey includes encounters with mutineers, captives, and cannibals before his eventual rescue. The writing blends instructional lessons, letters, and personal confessions. Historical events inspired the storyline, including the life of Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish castaway who lived alone for four years on a Chilean Pacific island. That island was officially renamed Robinson Crusoe Island in 1966. Another real castaway, Pedro Serrano, also provided inspiration for the book. The initial publication credited the fictional protagonist as the author, causing early readers to mistake the book for a factual travel guide. Audiences embraced the simple narrative style immediately. Four editions were printed before the end of 1719 alone. Today, it stands as one of the most widely published works in global history. Its massive popularity launched adaptations across literature, radio, television, and film, establishing an entire genre known as the Robinsonade.
