About the role
Coalition, Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer with a strong focus on Security to join their dedicated team. This role is central to building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers the organization security monitoring, threat detection, and incident response capabilities. The engineer will work closely alongside security analysts, product teams, and other engineering colleagues to design reliable data pipelines and ensure that critical security information flows smoothly and consistently across all systems. What you'll do
- Design and build scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load security telemetry from multiple sources.
- Develop and maintain data models that organize threat intelligence, vulnerability scans, and security event logs effectively.
- Work closely with security analysts to understand their data needs and translate requirements into technical specifications.
- Implement automated data quality checks and validation processes to ensure accuracy across all security datasets.
- Create interactive dashboards and reports that enable security teams to monitor threats and track key indicators.
- Optimize existing data infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency while maintaining strict security standards.
- Troubleshoot data pipeline failures, storage issues, and downstream consumption problems that impact security operations.
- Write comprehensive documentation covering data architectures, pipeline configurations, and operational runbooks for team reference.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities to address data-related incidents and support real-time security incident response.
- Evaluate emerging data technologies and tools that could enhance the organization security analytics and engineering capabilities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data governance policies and ensure compliance with internal security standards.
- Build batch and streaming data processing workflows that support both historical analysis and real-time alerting needs.
- Partner with data governance stakeholders to establish standards for handling sensitive and classified security information.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in data engineering roles with a focus on building reliable and secure data pipelines.
- Solid understanding of database systems including both relational databases and non-relational data storage solutions.
- Familiarity with security fundamentals such as access control, data encryption, and information protection practices.
- Proficiency in writing clean and well-structured code using general-purpose programming languages for data tasks.
- Knowledge of data pipeline architectures including batch processing, stream processing, and event-driven design patterns.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and their associated services for large-scale data workloads.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills applied to complex data and security challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for collaborating with engineers, analysts, and leadership.
- Experience with data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling for organizing large volumes of security data.
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

- Prior experience in security operations centers or threat intelligence teams working with real-time data feeds.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks, privacy regulations, and organizational compliance standards in enterprise settings.
