Clover Health is seeking a Director, Strategic Finance (Medicare Advantage) to define the financial architecture of our Medicare Advantage operations. This position exists at the intersection of analytical rigor and operational execution. The role reports to the centralized Finance organization while working closely with the Medicare Advantage leadership team. The selected candidate will serve as the primary financial strategist responsible for shaping growth levers and optimizing unit economics.
The successful candidate will function as a high-agency leader. This individual will move beyond traditional reporting duties to actively influence strategic decisions. They will translate complex data sets into clear, actionable guidance for executives. A core responsibility involves challenging existing processes to ensure accuracy and alignment with long-term value creation.
This newly created role is designed for a strategic thinker who owns the financial outcomes of the Medicare Advantage business. The Director will act as the primary financial partner for all growth initiatives. They will establish the financial frameworks that govern planning, forecasting, and performance measurement.
Key Responsibilities
The Director, Strategic Finance will define, measure, and optimize the unit economics of Medicare Advantage plans. This involves partnering with Actuarial, Growth, and Operations teams. The focus is on developing a nuanced, multi-year view of cohort and plan-level performance. The role requires constant evaluation of cost structures and identification of opportunities to optimize unit costs. Driving sustainable growth levers is a central function of this position.
This leader will own the planning and forecasting cycle for the Medicare Advantage segment. They will collaborate with leadership, actuarial, and operations to develop annual plans and quarterly forecasts. A key duty is to ensure the business rhythm is disciplined and data-driven. The role leverages the monthly close process to maintain rigorous alignment with the budget. ROI for all operational activities will be subject to continuous scrutiny. The ultimate goal is to ensure insights translate into concrete actions.
The Director will evaluate the financial viability of strategic projects and programs. This includes assessing high-stakes initiatives before capital allocation. Once programs are funded, the role tracks progress to guarantee delivery of projected value. Ensuring accountability for return on investment is a non-negotiable aspect of the job.
This position will drive the business "rhythm" through structured reviews. The Director will synthesize findings into concise narratives that inform strategic adjustments. Success Profile
Success in this role is defined by financial clarity and operational impact. Within the first 90 days, the Director will own the Medicare Advantage financial model and reporting cadence. They will provide leadership with a trusted view of performance, cost drivers, and unit economics. During the first six months, the role raises the bar on financial discipline. Cost center owners will actively manage spend against plan. The Director becomes the go-to partner for sophisticated initiative modeling and ROI tracking.
The candidate must hold 3-5 years of experience in strategic finance roles. They need a demonstrated track record of directing Medicare Advantage financial initiatives. Mastery of unit economics for healthcare membership models is required. The ability to translate data into clear narratives for executive stakeholders is essential.
About the Role
This is a full-time, remote position based in the USA. The compensation range is $180,000 to $240,000 annually. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure financial integrity. It requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to operational excellence.
