Senior Solution Engineer

About the role

Cloudflare is hiring a Senior Solution Engineer to work with startups and high-growth cloud-native companies building next-generation Internet products. You will partner with developer-led organizations where engineers and CTOs drive purchasing decisions. This is a technical pre-sales position focused on discovery, architecture discussions, and platform evangelism rather than writing production code daily.

What you'll do

• Run technical discovery sessions within the cloud-developer vertical to understand how customers build and where Cloudflare fits their stack
• Join sales discovery calls from the start, qualify opportunities early, and stay embedded with customer teams through Slack channels and working sessions
• Map customer initiatives and business challenges, particularly around new product development and AI projects, to Cloudflare capabilities
• Build relationships with founding engineers, developers, and CTOs to develop technical champions within accounts
• Create and deliver tailored demos and technical presentations for both hands-on developers and senior leadership
• Lead proof-of-concept builds for prospects and existing customers
• Promote the Cloudflare Developer Platform including Workers, Workers AI, Durable Objects, R2, D1, KV, Vectorize, Queues, and Pages as a foundation for building applications
• Produce reference architectures, demos, blog posts, and other knowledge-sharing materials
• Represent Cloudflare at developer, community, and industry events

Requirements

• Prior experience as a Solutions Engineer or similar customer-facing technical role, preferably with developer-led, cloud-native, or startup organizations
• Builder mindset with genuine interest in talking to developers and solving technical problems
• Ability to discuss architecture, APIs, and platform design credibly with engineers
• Strong technical discovery skills to draw out requirements and qualify fit early
• Comfort operating in fast-moving environments including joining customer Slack channels, iterating quickly, and engaging in early-stage calls
• Solid written and verbal communication skills with range to address both developers and CTOs
• Ability to manage multiple projects and activities concurrently
• Experience building or contributing to web applications in a meaningful way
• Track record of building technical relationships with engineers and founders
• Experience managing technical sales cycles including developing champions and driving technical wins
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
• Willingness to travel up to 50% for customer meetings, conferences, and team collaboration

• Familiarity with the Cloudflare Developer Platform including Workers, Durable Objects, Workers AI, R2, KV, D1, Vectorize, Queues, and Pages
• Experience building or architecting applications on serverless or edge platforms
• Knowledge of AI and GenAI application patterns including edge inference, RAG, and vector databases
• Understanding of HTTP technologies including reverse proxy, WAF, CDN, forward proxy, and secure web gateway
• Background in Internet security including DDoS mitigation, firewalls, TLS, VPN, and DLP
• Networking knowledge covering TCP, UDP, DNS, IPv4, IPv6, BGP routing, GRE, SD-WAN, MPLS, and global traffic management
• Familiarity with zero-trust network access, ZTNA, and SASE concepts including identity management
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Scripting or programming familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Golang, or BASH sufficient to read code and build demos
• Understanding of regulatory requirements such as FedRAMP, GDPR, PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC-2, or ISO/IEC

• San Francisco based: Estimated annual salary of $231,000 to $275,000+ OTE (base plus commissions)
• Los Angeles based: Estimated annual salary of $221,000 to $267,000 OTE (base plus commissions)
