What you'll do

• Assist in the preparation and filing of various tax returns, ensuring compliance with local and international tax laws.
• Conduct thorough research on tax regulations and policies to provide accurate advice to clients.
• Collaborate with senior tax professionals to analyze clients' financial situations and develop tax strategies that optimize their tax liabilities.
• Prepare documentation and reports for tax audits and inquiries, ensuring all information is accurate and submitted on time.
• Support clients in understanding their tax obligations and provide guidance on tax planning opportunities.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in tax legislation and how they impact clients.
• Participate in client meetings to discuss tax-related matters and present findings and recommendations.
• Contribute to the development of internal processes and best practices for tax compliance and reporting.
• Assist in the training and mentoring of junior staff or interns, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
• Work on special projects related to tax consulting, including international tax issues, transfer pricing, and VAT compliance.

Requirements

• A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is essential.
• A strong understanding of tax principles and regulations, with a focus on South African tax law.
• Previous experience in a tax-related role, whether through internships or academic projects, is preferred.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex tax legislation.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with clients and team members.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with tax software such as CaseWare, Sage, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of international tax regulations and compliance requirements.
• Certification or coursework in tax-related subjects, such as CTA or similar qualifications.
• Familiarity with accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• Previous client-facing experience in a professional services environment.
