US Accountant (Philippines)
Job description
About the role
This position involves taking ownership of the complete accounting lifecycle for a portfolio of expanding United States businesses and CPA practices. The engagement demands a dedicated, full-time focus to ensure the delivery of precise financial statements and efficient bookkeeping operations. You will act as a primary financial steward, managing core processes from transaction recording through to final reporting packages. The role is structured for professionals seeking a stable, long-term remote partnership with a firm that values technical rigor and client communication. Success requires balancing technical accounting standards with the practical needs of small to mid-sized business clients.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Execute comprehensive month-end and year-end closing procedures, posting adjusting journal entries, calculating accruals and prepayments, and maintaining the integrity of the general ledger across multiple client entities.
- Compile and finalize core financial statements including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and statements of cash flows, supplemented by detailed flux and variance analysis narratives for management review.
- Perform high-volume reconciliations for bank accounts, credit card statements, merchant processor feeds (e.g., Stripe, Square), and loan amortization schedules to ensure asset and liability accuracy.
- Administer full-cycle payroll operations, encompassing gross-to-net wage calculations, statutory and voluntary deduction management, tax withholding compliance, and coordination with external payroll providers where applicable.
- Construct annual operating budgets, rolling quarterly forecasts, and 13-week cash flow projection models to support client strategic planning and liquidity management.
- Design, document, and continuously refine standard operating procedures, monthly close checklists, and workpaper indexes to maintain audit-ready documentation standards year-round.
- Lead or participate in recurring client advisory meetings to present financial results, explain key performance indicators, and proactively highlight compliance risks or operational inefficiencies.
- Evaluate existing technology stacks and manual workflows to identify automation opportunities, implementing solutions such as bank rules, recurring transactions, or integration apps to reduce close cycle time.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable cycles including vendor onboarding, bill payment scheduling, invoice generation, and aging report analysis for collection prioritization.
- Ensure adherence to U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant tax basis reporting requirements across diverse industry verticals such as professional services, SaaS, e-commerce, and construction.
- Collaborate with engagement managers and tax preparers during tax season to deliver clean trial balances, supporting schedules, and fixed asset roll-forwards for Form 1120, 1065, and 1040 Schedule C filings.
- Maintain strict data security protocols and client confidentiality standards while operating within a fully distributed, cloud-based infrastructure.
Requirements

- Possess a minimum of two years of progressive experience in U.S. accounting functions, gained either within a public accounting firm servicing U.S. clients or an in-house finance department of a U.S.-headquartered company.
- Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online Advanced, including mastery of class/location tracking, project profitability, fixed asset manager, and multi-currency features.
- Exhibit professional-grade written and verbal English communication skills sufficient for direct interaction with U.S.-based business owners, controllers, and external CPAs.
- Commit to working a fixed schedule aligned with U.S. business hours (typically Eastern or Central Time), which necessitates a permanent night shift arrangement for candidates residing in the Philippines.
- Agree to an exclusive engagement model, confirming no concurrent full-time employment, freelance client work, or business ownership that would conflict with availability or confidentiality obligations.
- Display a strong conceptual grasp of accrual accounting mechanics, including revenue recognition principles (ASC 606 awareness), lease accounting basics (ASC 842), and intercompany elimination procedures.
