About the role
Join our dynamic team at Cardless, where you will play a role in shaping the accounting operations of an innovative credit card and loyalty platform. As the Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing bookkeeping activities, enhancing internal controls, and managing tax compliance. Collaborating closely with the Senior Director of Finance, you will help establish a in-house accounting and financial reporting framework that supports our growth.

What you'll do
- Supervise the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in daily and weekly accounting operations, including the management of daily funding wires.
- Streamline the monthly closing process by collaborating with both the bookkeeping team and offshore resources for Cardless Inc and Cardless Assets Receivable Trust.
- Ensure that financial reports are prepared and delivered punctually to external stakeholders, including our brand partners, maintaining transparency and accountability.
- Develop and enforce revenue recognition policies that align with ASC 606 and US GAAP, covering areas such as revenue, portfolio management, equity, and stock-based compensation accounting.
- Lead the annual audit process, creating essential policy documents and establishing controls that govern accounting procedures.
- Verify the accurate processing and accounting of all transactions related to cash, payroll, stock compensation, inter-company dealings, and capital markets activities.
- Drive the adoption of a new accounting system, such as Netsuite, to enhance operational efficiency as the company scales.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that accounting practices are integrated with overall business strategies and objectives.
- Mentor and develop junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth within the team.
- Prepare detailed financial analyses and reports that support strategic decision-making and operational planning.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and regulatory changes that may impact accounting practices and financial reporting.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in accounting, with a focus on financial reporting and compliance.
- CPA certification is required to ensure adherence to professional standards and practices.
- At least 2 years of experience in managing comprehensive month-end accounting activities and full financial reporting processes.
- Proficiency in accounting and expense management software, including QuickBooks Online, Netsuite, Bill.com, or Expensify.
- Strong individual contributor with a proven track record of maintaining a high level of professionalism and work ethic.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings effectively.
Nice to have
- Previous experience in the financial services sector or fintech industry is advantageous and will be considered a plus.
- Familiarity with advanced accounting software and tools that enhance financial operations.
- Experience working in a startup environment, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
