About the role
As a , you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the successful execution of solar energy projects from inception to completion. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and project management skills to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, and construction, to drive project success and contribute to the growth of renewable energy solutions.

What you'll do
- Lead the planning and execution of solar energy projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
- Develop comprehensive project plans that outline scope, objectives, resources, and timelines, while identifying potential risks and mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure that technical specifications are met and that all project deliverables align with client expectations.
- Manage procurement processes for materials and services, negotiating contracts and ensuring that all suppliers meet quality and delivery requirements.
- Facilitate communication between stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal teams, to ensure transparency and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project progress and performance metrics, preparing regular reports for senior management and stakeholders to keep them informed of developments.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards, addressing any issues that arise promptly.
- Implement best practices in project management and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and methodologies within the organization.
- Assist in the development of project budgets and forecasts, tracking expenditures and ensuring financial accountability.
- Support the training and development of junior project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Engage in post-project evaluations to assess outcomes and identify lessons learned for future projects.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to solar energy, applying this knowledge to enhance project outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in project management within the renewable energy sector, preferably in solar energy.
- Proven track record of successfully managing projects from conception through to completion, demonstrating strong organizational skills.
- Familiarity with project management software and tools, such as MS Project, Primavera, or similar applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations in the construction and renewable energy industries.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
Nice to have
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with financial modeling and budgeting for engineering projects.
- Familiarity with solar energy technologies and systems, including photovoltaic and thermal systems.
- Previous experience in a client-facing role, with a focus on building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Understanding of environmental regulations and sustainability practices in the energy sector.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
Practical notes
- This position is based in Magaliessig, Sandton, and may require occasional travel to project sites.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in South Africa and possess the necessary documentation.
