About the role
Bybit is seeking a Principal Golang Development Engineer to join their engineering team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This role involves leading the design and implementation of high-performance backend services that power one of the world's largest cryptocurrency trading platforms. The engineer will work on distributed systems that handle massive transaction volumes and require deep expertise in the Go programming language. As a principal-level contributor, this position demands architectural leadership and the ability to mentor other engineers across the organization. The role is based in the Kuala Lumpur office and requires full-time on-site presence.

What you'll do
Design and build scalable backend services using the Go programming language for a global cryptocurrency exchange platform. Lead the architecture of distributed systems that process high-throughput trading and transaction workloads. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, operations, and other engineering groups to define technical requirements and deliver reliable solutions. Mentor and guide mid-level and junior Golang developers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions. Own critical components of the trading engine, matching system, or wallet infrastructure that form the core of the exchange. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented Go code following established best practices and internal coding standards. Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the stability and uptime of production services that serve millions of users worldwide. Evaluate and adopt new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that improve engineering productivity and system reliability. Drive technical decisions around service decomposition, API design, and data modeling to support long-term platform growth. Work closely with infrastructure and DevOps teams to ensure applications are properly instrumented, monitored, and deployed with minimal downtime.
Requirements
Proven experience building production-grade systems in the Go programming language at scale. Strong understanding of distributed systems principles including concurrency, fault tolerance, and data consistency. Experience designing and implementing high-throughput, low-latency services that handle real-time data processing. Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases and the ability to optimize queries and data models for performance. Solid grasp of software engineering fundamentals including design patterns, testing strategies, and code quality practices. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders. Experience working in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly and deadlines are demanding. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Demonstrated leadership capabilities with a track record of driving technical initiatives and improving team outcomes. Comfort with on-call responsibilities and the willingness to troubleshoot production issues during off-hours.
Nice to have
Experience with cryptocurrency or financial technology platforms and their unique requirements around security and compliance. Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes for deploying microservices. Knowledge of message queuing systems and event-driven architectures for building resilient distributed applications. Exposure to performance profiling and tuning Go applications to identify and resolve bottlenecks in CPU, memory, or I/O usage. Prior experience working in a multinational engineering organization with teams spread across multiple time zones and regions. Contributions to open-source Go projects or a visible presence in the Go community through writing or speaking.
Skills & tools
Go programming language proficiency including advanced features such as generics, concurrency primitives, and memory management. Understanding of RESTful and gRPC API design patterns for building internal and external service interfaces. Proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git, and experience with branching strategies and code review workflows. Familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line tools for debugging, monitoring, and system administration. Knowledge of caching strategies using tools such as Redis or Memcached to reduce latency and database load. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks to maintain code quality and deployment velocity.
