Product Designer
Job description
About the role
Designers at Bounce turn traveler needs into clear interface decisions that shape digital touchpoints across the platform. You will own the end to end design of key user journeys, translating ambiguous traveler problems into coherent flows and interfaces. This involves creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished visuals that bring concepts to life for user testing and stakeholder review. You will rigorously test ideas with users and iterate on feedback to validate assumptions and surface new opportunities. Collaboration with product managers and engineers happens daily within cross functional teams where design is a core driver of decisions. Design decisions are judged by concrete outcomes such as usability, conversion, and customer satisfaction in real world usage. Most design teams within the business keep a living design system to keep products consistent as they scale. You will refine this system to help interfaces scale coherently as user needs evolve and new markets emerge.
Key facts
What you'll do
They refine this system to help interfaces scale coherently as user needs evolve.
User flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished visuals translate concepts for user testing and stakeholder review.
This experience guides visual execution and interaction details to uphold quality at every stage of the product lifecycle.
That stated bachelor's degree supplies the foundational knowledge expected for the position in digital traveler services.
You will translate high level business goals into specific design tasks that align with engineering constraints and timelines.
You will partner with researchers to synthesize findings and turn insights into actionable design opportunities for travelers.
You will define and maintain design system components that ensure consistency, accessibility, and efficiency across web and mobile products.
You will craft clear micro interactions and interface details that improve clarity, reduce friction, and support conversion goals.
You will communicate design rationale and trade offs to stakeholders, aligning expectations and securing buy in for proposed solutions.
You will participate in end to end product ownership, following ideas from discovery through launch and post launch optimization.
Requirements
The role requires three or more years of hands on product design experience building real consumer products to ensure pixel precision and detail oriented work. Candidates must hold the bachelor's degree field declared You should demonstrate a strong understanding of user centered design processes and how they apply to digital consumer products. Proven ability to work effectively in cross functional teams is essential, as design decisions are shaped by collaboration with product and engineering. Comfort with design tools and version control practices is expected to manage design files and deliverables. A strong portfolio that shows clear problem framing, constraints, and iteration is required to prove your readiness for the role. You must be able to work in Portugal under the applicable employment regulations for this full time position.
Nice to have
Portfolios show the problem, constraints, and iteration to demonstrate how candidates handle real world pressure.
Specializations such as UX research, interaction design, and brand design shape how designers contribute across the product lifecycle.
Experience designing for travel, logistics, or location based services is a plus given the specific context of traveler needs.
Familiarity with design systems and component based workflows helps teams maintain consistency across releases.
An understanding of conversion optimization and how interface decisions impact key metrics is valued.
Practical notes
Typical interview steps
Design interviews usually include a portfolio review, a design exercise, and a team conversation. Candidates present past work and explain their process and decisions. Some loops include a live design challenge where you solve a problem under time constraints. Communication matters as much as the visual output in these sessions. Portfolios are strongest when they show the problem, the constraints, and the iteration, not just the final screens that result. Interviewers also watch how you take feedback and incorporate it into revised thinking.
Questions to ask
Good questions to ask the employer in the interview include what does success look like in the first six months, how is the team structured, what is the current biggest challenge, and how are decisions made. Asking about growth paths and the review process is also well received, as it shows you are thinking about long term contribution. Employers expect candidates to ask thoughtful questions, and good questions demonstrate preparation and genuine interest in the team.
Career growth
Design careers at Bounce grow from junior to senior levels, progressing through staff and principal roles over time. Some designers move into design management or design operations as they develop leadership skills. Specializations include UX research, interaction design, and brand design, allowing you to deepen expertise in specific areas. Cross functional influence grows with seniority, and senior designers are expected to influence product strategy, not just execute visuals. Building a habit of user research strengthens any design career and helps you make more informed decisions.
Practical notes
General design work relies on tools for user research, prototyping, and collaboration to keep teams aligned. Design systems play a key role in maintaining consistency across platforms and releases as the product set expands. Strong portfolios communicate thinking through clear problem framing, defined constraints, and documented revisions. This role is based in Portugal and requires the right to work under the local employment regulations for full time employment. Travel is not required for this position, and candidates should be prepared to work fully remote or hybrid within the Portugal office framework.
