Staff Software Engineer, AI Developer Experience
Job description
About the role
Staff Software Engineer, AI Developer Experience
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the evolution of AI-driven development practices within our engineering organization. This position is responsible for shaping how artificial intelligence enhances the daily work of our engineers. The role involves defining long-term technical strategies and delivering robust platforms that empower developers. You will operate at the intersection of tooling, automation, and machine intelligence. The position is based in our New York City office.
The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most team members have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you are interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.
What You'll Achieve
You will architect systems that enable AI to deeply understand codebases and adhere to rigorous engineering standards. The goal is to accelerate the delivery of software by making agentic workflows reliable and intuitive. You will build cloud-native agents capable of executing complex, multi-step engineering tasks with minimal human intervention. These capabilities are intended to reduce repetitive effort and allow engineers to focus on creative problem-solving.
You will be responsible for crafting integrations for IDEs, editors, and command-line interfaces. The aim is to make AI assistance feel like a natural extension of the developer's existing tools. Creating a library of reusable skills and context is essential to prevent redundant effort across the company. You will refine the AI code review process to ensure engineers receive timely, high-quality feedback. Driving the adoption of these tools across the organization will be a core responsibility, supported by clear documentation and enablement programs.
About You
This role requires a substantial background in software development. You should bring more than eight years of experience building complex software systems. A significant portion of this experience should involve leading projects that impact multiple teams. Your background should include work on developer tools, internal platforms, or infrastructure. Experience with command-line interfaces and workflow automation is also important.
You must have hands-on experience with modern AI-assisted development environments. This includes tools such as cursor-based editors, agent-driven code generation platforms, and model context protocols. You have worked with or extended systems that manage AI-powered code review. Your experience may include building agent skill sets and tool ecosystems. You have designed evaluation frameworks to assess the quality and correctness of AI-generated code.
You possess strong technical judgment and systems design capabilities. You make sound decisions even when requirements are ambiguous or timelines are aggressive. Your curiosity about AI tools is genuine; you actively explore how these tools can improve collaboration and decision-making. You communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
What We Offer
Our compensation philosophy is designed to recognize impact relative to market value. We conduct regular pay equity audits to ensure fairness and objectivity in our compensation decisions. For this role, the base salary range is between two hundred forty-eight thousand dollars and two hundred eighty-two thousand dollars. The final offer will reflect the candidate's qualifications and market conditions.
The total compensation package may include additional components such as equity and performance incentives. Benefits are designed to support employees globally and promote well-being. These include mental health and wellness resources, career development coaching, and inclusive family-building policies. The package also features long-term savings and retirement planning options. In-office culinary options are provided to support daily work-life balance.
Key Facts
