Sr. Manager, Cash Application
Job description
About the role
Anthropic is scaling rapidly, and the volume of customer payments we receive is scaling with it. We are looking for a Senior Manager, Cash Application to take full ownership of the cash application function within our Invoice to Cash (I2C) organization. Reporting to the Head of Invoice to Cash, you will own the team, the daily operation, the KPI and SLA reporting, and the processes, procedures, and controls for cash application, and you will run the function with minimal oversight. This is a people leadership role with a clear build mandate: the function works today, and your job is to make it run predictably and efficiently at many times today's volume. You will partner closely with Collections, Credit, Billing Operations, Revenue Accounting, Treasury, Finance Systems, and Go-to-Market teams, as well as global and regional I2C leaders to ensure seamless order-to-cash execution. Cash application is foundational to clean accounts receivable, accurate cash and revenue reporting, effective collections, and a smooth customer experience. Today the function is supported by a small team of Cash Application Specialists using an automation platform (Tesorio) that we launched earlier this year. Our operating model is automation first, and you will own the outcome of driving the cash application automation roadmap aiming for a largely touchless operation, defining and refining the KPIs and SLAs the team is measured against, developing a small, high-performing team that manages exceptions rather than transactions, and keeping the processes and policies underneath the function current as payment methods, entities, and systems change. We expect the team to grow only fractionally, so the leverage has to come from auto-match rates, exception handling, Claude, and better upstream processes rather than from headcount. If you have scaled a cash application or AR operations function through rapid growth by automating it rather than staffing it, and want to do it again at a company building safe, frontier AI, we would love to hear from you.
Key facts
What you'll do
Drive the end-to-end operation of global cash application, owning daily execution, throughput, accuracy, and timeliness with minimal oversight.
Build and lead a small, high-leverage cash application team structured around exceptions rather than volume, defining roles, skills, and regional coverage.
Hire, onboard, coach, mentor, and manage Cash Application Specialists and contractors, setting clear productivity and quality targets and growth paths.
Design and run the team's operating cadence, including daily work allocation, queue management, escalation paths, and coverage for close, holidays, and regional time zones.
Own and drive the cash application automation roadmap, covering auto-match rules, remittance capture and parsing, exception routing, and automated posting to the ERP.
Serve as the day-to-day business owner of the AR automation platform, partnering with Finance Systems, Treasury, and the vendor on matching rules, bank and payment-processor feeds, ERP integration, and enhancement requests.
Champion Claude adoption within the team, identifying where Claude can remove manual work such as remittance interpretation, short-pay and deduction coding, customer remittance outreach, and reporting, and pilot these applications.
Set and track automation and leverage targets for the function, such as auto-match rate, touchless posting rate, exceptions per specialist, and payments processed per head, and report progress against them.
Partner with Collections, Credit, Billing Operations, Revenue Accounting, Treasury, Finance Systems, and Go-to-Market teams to align processes and remove bottlenecks across the order-to-cash cycle.
Translate I2C leadership intent into operational plans and metrics, escalating only issues that require strategic cross-functional resolution.
Define and refine the KPIs and SLAs by which the team is measured, ensuring they reflect growth, efficiency, and risk management as volumes scale.
Own the process documentation, controls, and governance required for audits, compliance, and continuous improvement in cash application.
Identify and execute improvements in upstream processes to reduce exceptions and improve auto-match rates, collaborating with banking and payment processors as needed.
Represent the cash application function in cross-company initiatives, steering discussions on standards, tooling, and best practices for scalable AR automation.
Requirements
8+ years of progressive experience in cash application, accounts receivable operations, or a related finance operations role, with a demonstrated history of scaling teams and processes.
5+ years of hands-on experience with AR automation platforms and cash application tools such as Tesorio, HighRadius, or similar.
3+ years of experience managing and developing a team of finance specialists, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
Strong expertise in cash application processes, including auto-match, short-pay and deduction coding, remittance processing, and exception resolution.
Proven ability to interpret financial metrics and build KPIs/SLAs that drive operational performance and accountability.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders across finance, systems, and GTM functions at the executive level.
Deep understanding of order-to-cash workflows, ERP systems (such as NetSuite or SAP), and bank payment feeds or settlement systems.
Experience working with AI and automation tools in a finance operations context is strongly preferred, including prior work with Claude or similar LLMs for operational tasks.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree or CPA is a plus.
Nice to have
Prior experience scaling finance operations in a high-growth, technology-driven company.
Experience implementing Claude or other LLM-based assistants for finance workflows.
Background in working with global payment methods, multi-entity consolidations, and complex banking integrations.
