Altenar is seeking a dedicated and experienced Legal Counsel to join our dynamic team in Douglas. What you'll do
- Provide comprehensive legal advice on a wide range of issues related to gaming, betting, and online gambling regulations, ensuring compliance with local and international laws.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including service agreements, licensing agreements, and partnership contracts, to protect the company's interests.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including compliance, finance, and operations teams, to identify and mitigate legal risks associated with business operations.
- Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory requirements that may impact the company, providing timely updates and recommendations to senior management.
- Represent the company in legal proceedings, including disputes and negotiations, ensuring that our legal position is effectively communicated and defended.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making processes and to inform the development of company policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement training programs for staff on legal compliance and best practices, fostering a culture of awareness and adherence to legal standards.
- Assist in the management of external legal counsel and consultants, ensuring that services provided align with company objectives and budgetary constraints.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and industry associations to advocate for the company's interests and to stay informed about industry trends and developments.
- Prepare and submit necessary documentation for licensing applications and renewals, ensuring that all submissions are accurate and timely.
- Provide guidance on intellectual property matters, including trademark registration and protection, to safeguard the company's brand and innovations.
- Support the development of internal policies and procedures that align with legal requirements and industry best practices, enhancing operational efficiency.
Requirements
- A law degree from a recognized institution and admission to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal role, preferably within the gaming, betting, or technology sectors.
- Strong understanding of gaming regulations and compliance requirements in multiple jurisdictions.
- Excellent negotiation and drafting skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide practical legal solutions.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Nice to have
- Experience working in a multinational corporation or a law firm with a focus on gaming and technology.
- Familiarity with data protection laws and regulations, particularly in relation to online gaming and customer data.
- Knowledge of corporate governance and compliance frameworks, particularly in the context of the gaming industry.
- Fluency in multiple languages, which may be beneficial in dealing with international clients and regulatory bodies.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in legal research tools and databases, such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
- Familiarity with contract management software and compliance tracking tools.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems.
- Ability to utilize project management tools to track legal projects and deadlines effectively.
