Compensation and Experience
The position offers a salary of $135,000.00 annually. It requires an active bar license and 3-5 years of relevant trial or appellate background. Candidates must possess a proven track record in complex litigation.
What You Will Do
You will draft pleadings, motions, and appellate documents focused on defending life and conscience. Each written product must withstand judicial scrutiny in various forums. You will conduct detailed legal and factual research to support case development. Interviewing clients and witnesses will form a core part of building strong cases. You will investigate case facts and construct coherent case theories essential for successful advocacy. You will represent clients in court and administrative settings, explaining laws and regulations clearly to judges and stakeholders. This includes filing comprehensive responses to discovery requests to protect client interests. You will conduct and defend depositions, protecting client interests at every stage of the proceedings. Collaboration with colleagues is vital to validate theories and ensure strict procedural adherence throughout the litigation lifecycle. Partnership with the Development team includes participation in speaking events and mission-driven engagements that advance the mission. You will analyze contracts and internal legal issues, advising on compliance and identifying potential risks proactively. You will share expertise with allied attorneys, strengthening the broader legal network through knowledge transfer. Building relationships with outside counsel enhances coordinated defense capabilities and resource sharing.
Requirements
Active bar admission in good standing is mandatory, along with 3-5 years of relevant trial or appellate experience demonstrating courtroom competence. You must have a demonstrated history litigating constitutional claims in various jurisdictions. Experience with the First Amendment and 42 U.S.C. § 1983 matters is required for this position. The ability to draft intricate legal filings and argue motions persuasively is critical to success in this role. You must prepare appellate work suitable for court submission, ensuring every detail meets the highest standards. Effective collaboration with teams, clients, and legal partners is necessary to achieve optimal outcomes. Maintaining strict confidentiality is non-negotiable given the sensitive nature of the cases handled. You must embrace the specific dockets of the Center for Life, including high-profile cases concerning abortion and conscience rights.
