What you'll do
- Guide a team of engineers and managers, cultivating an environment of high performance, ownership, and inclusivity to build systems and tools for new Affirm products.
- Direct teams responsible for managing large-scale storage solutions, including relational and key-value data infrastructure.
- Drive engineering and business objectives, emphasizing reliability, security, and team productivity.
- Partner with technical leads, program managers, and other engineering managers on architectural planning, security, and the delivery of multiple projects.
- Collaborate across the broader engineering organization and with external partners.
- Mentor and develop team members, supporting their professional growth and representing Affirm's hiring brand.
- Lead technical strategy and roadmaps for the Online Storage team, influencing Affirm's approach to managing relational and key-value data workloads.
- Work with peers and leadership to define multi-year plans for developing frameworks, services, and tools that meet evolving business needs.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years managing diverse teams and delivering complex, cross-functional technical programs.
- Demonstrated success in stakeholder management, taking ownership, and achieving successful project outcomes.
- Deep understanding of cache architecture and lifecycle management, including tiered design, eviction policies, consistency models, and protection against thundering herd issues.
- Proven experience operating low-latency, high-throughput storage and caching platforms in production environments, such as Redis, Memcached, DynamoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, TiDB, CockroachDB, or Vitess, including multi-region setups and replication.
- Ability to mentor engineers, execute cross-functional projects, and contribute technically.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, coupled with a growth mindset.
- Experience in data infrastructure and a dedication to leading technical teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
