About the role
This Senior Full Stack Engineer, Integrations VistA position is central to Abridge's mission of powering deeper understanding in healthcare through secure, scalable technology. You will own the design and implementation of integrations that connect our platform with healthcare systems using standards such as FHIR and REST-like APIs. The role focuses on building real-time and batch data pipelines that enable seamless interoperability in clinical environments. You will collaborate directly with health system customers to deploy, troubleshoot, and support integrations in production settings. A core part of this position is advocating for quality-of-life improvements in the codebase and actively reducing technical debt. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including product, design, machine learning, and infrastructure to align on delivery goals. This position demands a high level of autonomy and self-direction while maintaining strong teamwork. You will be responsible for ensuring that integrations are built with robust security, privacy, and quality as foundational requirements.
What you'll do
- Build robust healthcare integrations without compromising security, privacy, or quality using REST-like APIs, healthcare standards such as FHIR, and third-party APIs.
- Scale up our business by designing, building, and supporting integrations and infrastructure that meet enterprise demands.
- Collaborate closely with our health system customers to deploy, troubleshoot, and support integrations while engaging effectively with external partners and stakeholders.
- Enhance existing systems to add new functionality and to improve performance, stability, quality, and security across integration points.
- Advocate for high standards; make quality-of-life improvements to the codebase; add documentation and share knowledge; and help limit the growth of technical debt.
- Build deep user empathy and maintain a user-centric mindset throughout the development lifecycle.
- Communicate regularly and effectively within and on behalf of our cross-functional product delivery teams, working with disciplines such as design, product, machine learning, and infrastructure.
- Contribute to projects across the company by learning from and contributing to initiatives beyond your core responsibilities.
- Implement solutions that leverage technologies such as OAuth2.0 and mTLS to ensure secure and reliable communication channels.
- Support the expansion of our technology stack by working with NodeJS/TypeScript and Google Cloud Platform to deliver scalable integrations.
- Ensure that all integration work aligns with healthcare data standards and best practices for interoperability.
- Act as an integration expert to guide implementation specialists and support teams in resolving complex issues.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience launching business-critical integrations with large enterprises.
- 2+ years of VistA Integration experience.
- Experience with mPage Workflow components, Dynamic Documentation, and CCL.
- Experience working with technologies REST-like APIs (FHIR), OAuth2.0, mTLS.
- Excitement about working on our tech stack, which includes NodeJS/TypeScript and Google Cloud Platform.
- Passionate about working in healthcare integrations.
- Ability to act with autonomy & self-direction while working well in a team environment.
- Willingness to pitch in wherever needed - as a fast-moving startup we need to do good work, quickly.
- Comfortable with working across domains and languages with a curiosity to experiment & learn new things.
- Strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Nice to have
- 2+ years of experience working with healthcare data integrations.
- Experienced in delivering integrations with EHRs like Oracle Health/VistA and others.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following technologies: FHIR, HL7, X12.
