Abby Care is building the leading AI-native platform for family-led care at home for all of America. You will own the end-to-end delivery of our mobile experience for both iOS and Android, ensuring the app is intuitive, reliable, and resilient for family caregivers. This role involves shaping the technical design, implementing core features, and defining testing frameworks that reflect real-world caregiving environments. You will optimize for users who may not be tech-savvy and who rely on the app in challenging connectivity conditions. Collaboration with clinical, operations, and compliance teams will be central to your work as you advocate for mobile excellence. What you'll do
Lead mobile app development end-to-end for iOS and Android, owning the full lifecycle from concept to delivery.
Design and implement a caregiver-first user experience that is simple, guided, and forgiving for non-technical users.
Build resilient mobile apps that perform well in low-connectivity environments using offline-first patterns, caching, sync, retries, and conflict handling.
Establish a mobile testing framework grounded in real-world usage, including device variability, intermittent networks, backgrounding, interruptions, and accessibility needs.
Create automated tests, regression coverage, monitoring, and telemetry to support release quality gates and continuous reliability improvements.
Collaborate with operations, clinical, compliance, product, and design teams to solve real-world caregiving problems and align on technical tradeoffs.
Integrate mobile applications with backend APIs and modern authentication patterns securely and at scale.
Define and implement performance and stability standards for mobile, focusing on lifecycle management, local storage, and networking efficiency.
Elevate engineering excellence by setting standards for code quality, architecture, observability, and security on mobile platforms.
Contribute to scalable feature development patterns and data handling strategies that maintain user trust and support mission-critical care workflows.
Drive improvements that help reduce reliance on higher-cost care settings and ensure public dollars are spent effectively through better in-home care.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize work that advances the mission of enabling families to deliver high-quality care at home.
Requirements
5-7 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful experience building and shipping mobile apps.
Experience developing for iOS and/or Android in production, including release management and debugging issues in the wild.
Experience with React Native for building cross-platform mobile applications.
Strong understanding of mobile fundamentals such as performance, reliability, lifecycle management, background execution, local storage, and networking.
Experience designing for real-world constraints including intermittent connectivity, device variability, and accessibility needs.
Experience defining and implementing testing strategy for mobile, including automated tests, CI, regression frameworks, and quality gates.
Experience integrating mobile apps with backend APIs and modern authentication patterns.
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
Experience with product development is preferred.
Experience in the healthcare industry and at startups is preferred.
Nice to have
Experience with offline-first or sync-heavy applications, including queueing, retries, conflict resolution, and degraded-mode patterns.
