1Password is on the lookout for a Senior Accountant specializing in Tax to become a vital part of our tax team. This role is essential for managing tax provision, compliance, and reporting activities. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring compliance with tax regulations, supporting the financial reporting process, and identifying strategies to optimize the company's tax position.

What you'll do
- Prepare quarterly tax provisions, ensuring accurate reconciliations, addressing uncertain tax positions, and crafting financial statement disclosures in line with US GAAP standards.
- Review and analyze data from the accounting team that contributes to tax provision calculations.
- Collaborate with external tax advisors for year-end provision calculations, focusing on book-to-tax differences.
- Oversee and reconcile tax-related accounts during the monthly accounting close process.
- Draft tax accounting memos that document analyses and conclusions for complex transactions.
- Provide assistance to the accounting team during year-end audits to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Aid in preparing tax estimates for the budgeting process and quarterly forecasts.
- Conduct research and propose tax positions, accounting issues, and risk management strategies.
- Prepare and review federal, state, and provincial income tax returns, with the goal of transitioning some compliance tasks in-house.
- Calculate and prepare apportionment data along with the necessary supporting documentation.
- Prepare calculations for estimated tax payments.
- Support the resolution of inquiries and notices from tax authorities.
- Coordinate and manage tax audits effectively.
- Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and evaluate their implications for the organization.
- Manage compliance with state and local taxes, including sales and use taxes.
- Ensure that transfer pricing policies and documentation are up-to-date and compliant.
- Prepare quarterly calculations for Passive Foreign Investment Company (PFIC) requirements.
- Contribute to special projects, including tax planning and the analysis of non-standard transactions.
- Lead special tax initiatives and engage with business partners on tax-related issues.
- Assist with tax due diligence in relation to mergers and acquisitions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in corporate tax provision and compliance, either from a public accounting firm or a corporate tax department.
- CPA designation is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of US and Canadian income tax laws and regulations at the federal, provincial, state, and local levels.
- Solid technical understanding of US GAAP tax accounting rules, specifically ASC 740.
- Experience with Estimated Annual Effective Tax Rate (AETR) provision reporting is essential.
- Familiarity with Canadian tax issues is advantageous.
- Proficient in using reporting and compliance tools, including NetSuite and income tax compliance software like OneSource.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables, SUMIFs, VLOOKUPs, and INDEX formulas.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across various departments.
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex tax matters to different stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Experience with Canadian Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) and US Research and Development (R&D) tax credit claims is a plus.
- A proactive mindset towards exploring and implementing new technologies, including AI tools for enhancing work efficiency.
