Senior Software Engineer at Zuora.
About the role
You will join the team responsible for Zephr, a subscription experience platform that enables media companies and digital publishers to manage AI-driven paywalls and user journeys. This role requires a blend of backend and frontend expertise to maintain high-traffic systems while designing scalable architecture. You will work directly with product management and operations to build and support critical subscription infrastructure.

What you'll do
- Develop and scale high-throughput, multi-tenanted applications.
- Lead the design and implementation of solutions for complex backend and user-facing challenges.
- Create and maintain secure, performant APIs for internal and public use.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Mentor junior team members and conduct code reviews.
- Propose technical standards and improve operational processes.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- Proficiency in Java (JDK 21 or newer) and/or Kotlin.
- Experience with Javascript, Typescript, and React.
- Understanding of API design including REST, gRPC, GraphQL, and OpenAPI.
- Knowledge of web fundamentals like HTTP, DNS, and browser tools.
- Familiarity with API security standards such as OAuth2, SAML, and JWT.
- Background in TDD, OOP, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
- Experience managing microservices in production environments.
Nice to have
- Experience with reverse proxies like HAProxy, Envoy, or Nginx, or API gateways like Kong.
- Proficiency with AWS and Terraform.
- Exposure to modern frontend frameworks such as Svelte.
- Familiarity with load testing tools like JMeter, Gatling, or wrk2.
- Skill in JVM profiling and production metrics analysis using Prometheus, Grafana, InfluxDB, or ELK.
