Sr. Staff Software Development Engineer

About the role

Zscaler operates a cloud-native Zero Trust Exchange platform that secures global enterprise data. We are looking for a technical leader to join our engineering organization and help scale our multitenant architecture. You will report to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering while driving high-impact initiatives across our security product suite.

What you'll do

• Design and maintain high-scale, production-ready distributed systems.
• Provide architectural direction across products and services to ensure technical consistency.
• Define and implement standards for observability, testing, coding, and CI/CD automation.
• Lead cross-functional efforts to improve system reliability, performance, and feature delivery speed.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional experience writing Java or Go in enterprise-scale, distributed environments.
• Practical experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS or Azure.
• Proficiency in microservices architecture and distributed system design.
• Solid understanding of SQL data modeling and database constructs.
• Foundational knowledge of AI/ML concepts and their application to functional domains.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, web frameworks, and streaming infrastructure such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Druid, or ElasticSearch.
• Proficiency in data tier technologies including Postgres, Redis, Neo4j, AWS Neptune, or Terraform and Ansible.
• Development experience with GraphQL APIs and Python.
• Knowledge of identity management protocols like SAML, OAuth, and Okta.
• Background in designing fault-tolerant systems for networking or cloud security.
