About the role
Zscaler is seeking a hands-on leader to manage cloud reliability and operations for the ZIA and ZPA platforms. This high-visibility role focuses on scaling architecture to support over 1 trillion transactions while maintaining the global standard for cloud security. The hired individual will own the definition of problem statements and the end-to-end management of the reliability and scalability roadmap for these critical platforms. They will act as the primary liaison between customer concerns and internal technical execution, ensuring transparency and trust. This position requires deep collaboration with cross-functional partners to navigate complex technical and business challenges. The role is instrumental in driving the stability necessary for the continued growth of the Zscaler platform. What you'll do
- Define problem statements and manage the ZIA/ZPA reliability and scalability roadmap.
- Lead customer discussions regarding cloud resilience, including roadmap transparency and root cause analysis reviews.
- Analyze cloud incidents and escalations to direct cross-functional teams toward improvement.
- Act as the subject matter expert for field teams regarding reliability and scalability inquiries.
- Partner with cloud architects and software engineers to balance platform growth with stability.
- Translate complex customer needs into product requirements using data analytics and user insights.
- Drive the implementation of observability and monitoring strategies to enhance platform reliability.
- Collaborate with sales and customer success to identify risks and align on strategic account plans.
- Evaluate the impact of new features on system performance and scalability before launch.
- Champion best practices for resilience, including cascading failure prevention and recovery playbooks.
- Leverage AI/ML tools to automate the detection of anomalies and predict potential service disruptions.
- Represent Zscaler in industry discussions and contribute to the broader community on reliability topics.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Technical Product Management, or a Bachelor degree in a technical field.
- Foundational knowledge of AI/ML technologies and experience applying them to functional domains.
- Technical expertise in network security, including proxies, firewalls, TLS, PKI, and HTTP/S.
- Experience with cloud-native services at major SaaS providers or hyper-scalers.
- Understanding of resilience patterns, such as observability, clustering, and cascading failure prevention.
- Base salary range: $171,500 to $245,000 USD.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proven experience working with large-scale distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret data and metrics to inform product decisions and troubleshooting.
- Experience working in regulated industries or with compliance frameworks is mandatory.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to engage with key customers and stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience using AIOps, predictive analytics, or AI/ML to automate incident detection and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to translate complex customer needs into product requirements using data analytics.
- Knowledge of global transit architectures, WAN, MPLS, routing protocols, and NaaS.
- Hands-on experience with Zscaler products such as ZIA, ZPA, or ZDX.
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as Zero Trust and how they relate to connectivity services.
- Experience with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and service meshes.
- Understanding of cost optimization strategies for cloud infrastructure at scale.
- Background in developing integrations with third-party monitoring or ITSM tools.
