Staff Product Designer, Design System

About the role

Zscaler is seeking a Staff Product Designer, Design System to own the end-to-end evolution of the company's design ecosystem and ensure consistency across all product surfaces. In this role, you will treat AI as a daily craft instrument, using modern tool stacks to generate, iterate, and launch live prototypes and products. You will act as an owner with a bias for action, navigating between high-level strategy and hands-on execution to achieve impactful outcomes. The position requires you to lead with integrity, compress the loop between idea and shipped pattern, and establish clear visual, interaction, and structural standards. You will collaborate closely with Design, Engineering, and cross-functional teams to build a high-performing design culture centered on customer obsession and transparency. This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, requiring 3 days in the HQ office. Your work will directly influence how the world's largest security data lake powers a cloud-native Zero Trust Exchange that connects users, devices, and applications securely.

What you'll do

• Create and refine scalable components and patterns, ensuring adaptability and consistency to improve product efficiency and cohesiveness across Zscaler's product landscape.
• Contribute to and refine the Zscaler Design System end-to-end, including tokens, components, patterns, documentation, and governance to maintain a single source of truth.
• Use modern, AI-powered tool stacks such as Claude Code and Cursor to generate, iterate on, and launch live prototypes and products with speed and precision.
• Compress the loop between idea and shipped pattern by accelerating documentation and automating design-to-code handoff to reduce friction and increase throughput.
• Establish and enforce visual, interaction, and structural standards that align with enterprise-scale needs and support global product initiatives.
• Partner with Design and Engineering teams to define system architecture, ensuring design decisions are technically feasible and scalable.
• Mentor cross-functional partners on design principles and best practices to foster a shared understanding and consistent implementation of the design system.
• Analyze product metrics and user feedback to iterate on system components, driving continuous improvement in usability and performance.
• Facilitate design reviews and stakeholder alignment sessions to ensure that solutions meet business goals and user needs effectively.
• Champion accessibility and internationalization standards to ensure that the design system serves a diverse global user base.

Requirements

• You demonstrate active exploration of AI tools, with a proven history of integrating new technologies to enhance daily workflows and augment problem-solving in a professional setting.
• You bring 8-10 years of Product Design experience, with 2+ years specifically focused on creating, scaling, and maintaining enterprise-grade Design Systems, supported by a portfolio showcasing component libraries, user guidelines, and successful adoption strategies.
• You have experience working closely with engineering and design teams to align on Design System goals, provide mentorship, and advocate for design principles and best practices across the organization.
• You possess deep fluency in design tokens, component architectures, and pattern libraries, with the ability to translate complex design systems into clear, actionable documentation.
• You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving initiatives that require strategic thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and execution at an enterprise scale.
• You exhibit strong ownership, holding yourself and others to high accountability standards while matching words with consistent, transparent action and results.
• You have a proven track record of building high-performing teams that can deliver impactful outcomes quickly and with high quality in a fast-paced environment.

• Familiarity with Zscaler's product suite and Zero Trust security concepts, demonstrating an understanding of the problems the platform solves.
