Sr. Staff Backend Engineer at Zscaler.
About the role
Zscaler is looking for a senior technical leader to join the Exposure Management and Security Operations department. You will work on the Avalor data platform, which unifies security and business data to provide actionable risk insights for global enterprise customers.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Python.
- Build and manage data pipelines and ETL workflows to unify information from various sources.
- Lead projects from initial design through production deployment, including monitoring for performance, reliability, and cost.
- Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and other engineering teams.
- Act as a technical anchor by setting engineering standards and guiding architectural decisions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building SaaS products.
- Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, or a similar high-level language.
- Experience with high-scale, multi-tenant cloud architectures, including Docker, Kubernetes, and workflow orchestration.
- Hands-on experience with data-intensive systems, ETL pipelines, and big data stores.
- Foundational knowledge of AI/ML technologies and experience positioning AI-driven solutions.
- Ability to lead complex technical work autonomously.
Nice to have
- B.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field.
- Experience as a team lead or tech lead.
- Background in designing backend infrastructure for LLM workflows, RAG platforms, or AI-driven security analytics.
