Senior Vehicle SW Deployment Engineer: Robot Software Infrastructure

About the role

Zoox is building autonomous vehicles from the ground up, along with the infrastructure needed to operate them at scale. The Robot Software Infrastructure Deploy team creates and maintains systems that push software and firmware updates to vehicles and test equipment throughout development, manufacturing, and field operations. This role involves working across a wide range of hardware including sensors, compute platforms, automotive ECUs, network switches, and interface devices.

What you'll do

• Design and build deployment support for upcoming vehicle components and subsystems
• Improve the core deployment framework, developer tooling, instrumentation, and connections to other engineering systems
• Identify and implement changes that increase deployment speed, efficiency, and reliability for mission-critical operations
• Investigate, debug, and fix complex deployment failures that span hardware and software layers
• Work closely with Firmware, QA, Systems, Manufacturing, and Fleet Operations teams to ensure smooth execution across the entire pipeline

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
• 7+ years of professional experience writing clean, scalable Python code
• Solid understanding of Linux in embedded or resource-constrained environments
• Familiarity with CAN or similar embedded and automotive communication protocols such as Ethernet or LIN
• Proven ability to triage hardware and software issues and perform thorough root-cause analysis

Nice to have

• Experience with systems-level languages that require manual memory management, such as C or C++
• Background configuring or tuning build systems like Bazel or CMake
• Exposure to manufacturing execution systems or end-of-line flashing workflows

Practical notes

• Salary range: $179,000 to $294,000, depending on location and level
• Compensation includes Amazon Restricted Stock Units and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights
• Sign-on bonus may be included
