Director, FinOps

About the role

This position will lead the financial operations strategy for our global cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for optimizing costs, forecasting expenditures, and managing vendor relationships across our multi-cloud environment.

What you'll do

• Oversee the global financial strategy for cloud usage, focusing on GCP and AWS optimization.
• Develop and maintain systems for allocating cloud costs to specific products and services, clarifying unit economics.
• Manage the financial aspects of our AI initiatives, including current model expenses and future model development costs.
• Take ownership of cloud budget management and third-party software licensing, using data analysis for accurate financial projections.
• Lead international vendor negotiations and contract management to secure favorable terms.
• Provide clear visibility into total cloud cost of ownership to Finance and Engineering leadership.
• Guide and develop the FinOps team, supporting their technical and professional growth.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years in technology operations, procurement, or cloud finance.
• At least 2-3 years in a formal management or leadership capacity.
• Proven experience with production cloud environments on GCP and AWS, including billing and cost-saving strategies.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles and their financial implications, such as Kubernetes, serverless, and data storage.
• Demonstrated success in negotiating international contracts with technology providers.
• Familiarity with the cost factors associated with AI and machine learning, including API usage and model training.
• Ability to effectively manage stakeholder expectations and prioritize work across different teams.
• Aptitude for adapting to evolving technologies and changing priorities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address cost anomalies and architectural shifts.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with global leadership and peers.
