System Administrator 1
Job description
About the role
At Wyetech, you will stand at the center of an award-winning corporate culture, using your technical abilities to break technological barriers that exist between modern tooling and the real-world problems faced by federal government customers. This System Administrator 1 role operates within a federally contracted environment and requires United States Citizenship and the ability to obtain appropriate security clearance, such as an Active TS/SCI clearance with agency-appropriate polygraph. You will own the end-to-end health of critical IT infrastructure, acting as the first line of defense and escalation authority for complex system issues that impact government operations and mission continuity.
What you'll do
Provide first-line and second-line support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of diverse Information Technology systems across federal client environments. Manage the complete lifecycle of IT system infrastructure, overseeing processes related to deployment, monitoring, optimization, and decommissioning of critical technology assets. Monitor day-to-day operations of client, server, storage, network, and mobile devices, detecting performance issues and coordinating rapid problem resolution. Perform Tier 1 Help Desk and Tier 2 Escalation functions, identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical problems through systematic investigation and methodical testing. Escalate complex issues to appropriate engineering teams, communicating status updates to agency management and internal customers to maintain transparency and trust. Dispatch hardware problems and coordinate with logistics and vendors to ensure timely replacement, repair, and resolution of failed components.
Configure and manage UNIX and Windows operating systems, installing and loading operating system software, applying patches, and tuning settings for stability and security. Troubleshoot, maintain integrity, and configure network components, implementing operating system enhancements and infrastructure improvements that boost reliability and performance. Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, changes, and procedures to support continuity, audits, and knowledge transfer within the IT service management framework. Collaborate with development and engineering teams to reproduce issues in test environments, validate fixes, and ensure that solutions meet federal standards and customer requirements. Apply security best practices and compliance controls during system administration activities, safeguarding government data and adhering to strict regulatory policies. Support the integration of new technologies and legacy systems, ensuring interoperability and minimal disruption during transitions or upgrades. Monitor system logs, performance metrics, and alerting systems to identify trends, anticipate failures, and drive proactive improvements in infrastructure reliability. Serve as a technical liaison between on-site personnel, remote teams, and third-party vendors, coordinating responses to incidents and coordinating resolution efforts across distributed environments.
Requirements
Eligible candidates must be United States Citizens, as required by federal contract mandates, and must possess or be able to obtain appropriate security clearance, such as an Active TS/SCI clearance with agency-appropriate polygraph, to perform the duties of this position. Candidates must have the ability to understand and interpret technical documentation, system schematics, and operational procedures to effectively manage complex IT environments and support troubleshooting activities. You must demonstrate experience with both UNIX and Windows operating systems, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization in enterprise-level government settings. You must possess strong problem-solving skills, using structured methodologies to isolate root causes, validate hypotheses, and implement effective solutions under time-sensitive conditions. You must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing status updates, explaining technical concepts, and documenting activities in a concise and accurate manner. You must have the capability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a dynamic government contracting environment while maintaining attention to detail and adherence to strict standards. You must be willing to follow established IT service management processes, including change control, incident management, and configuration management, to ensure compliance and operational integrity. You must be able to obtain and maintain government security clearance as required by contract, which may involve submitting to background investigations and providing truthful information during the clearance process.
