About the role

In this capacity, you will own the full lifecycle of complex network services, moving from initial design phases all the way through implementation, ongoing maintenance, and the careful upgrading of existing infrastructure. You will analyze intricate design documents and technical specifications to ensure that every solution aligns precisely with strict federal standards and strategic modernization goals. A core part of your ownership will involve performing detailed engineering analysis of various telecommunications alternatives to support large-scale infrastructure enhancements. You will translate dense business requirements into concrete telecommunications solutions, designing voice, video, LAN, CAN, and WAN architectures that are both robust and efficient. Furthermore, you will act as a critical liaison, coordinating closely with end users, operations personnel, and strategic program management to resolve network incidents and interface on complex projects. You will schedule and manage conversions and cutovers, ensuring minimal disruption to federal operations while maintaining the highest levels of system integrity. In this role, you will be instrumental in turning high-level strategic modernization efforts into tangible, working telecommunications systems that serve the mission of our government partners.

What you'll do

Perform comprehensive network design, implementation, maintenance, and upgrading of existing federal network infrastructures.

Analyze detailed design specifications and related technical documents to ensure compliance and operational integrity.

Schedule and execute conversions and cutovers for network upgrades with precision and minimal downtime.

Coordinate with all responsible users and distributed sites to resolve complex network or system incidents as they arise.

Translate high-level business requirements into detailed telecommunications requirements for LAN, CAN, WAN, Voice, and Video solutions.

Perform sophisticated engineering analysis of telecommunications alternatives to support strategic modernization efforts for large-scale infrastructures.

Design and order robust telecommunications architectures that meet the specific needs of medium to large-scale federal telecommunication projects.

Assist telecommunications end users, operations personnel, and strategic program management with all network interfaces and technical clarifications.

Conduct thorough testing and validation of network services to ensure they meet stringent federal security and performance standards.

Document all configurations, changes, and procedures to maintain clear audit trails and operational knowledge bases.

Monitor network performance metrics proactively to identify potential bottlenecks or security vulnerabilities before they impact users.

Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain network security protocols that protect sensitive federal data.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff during the implementation of complex network projects.

Serve as the primary technical contact for stakeholders, ensuring timely communication and resolution of all network-related issues.

Requirements

Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position appropriate security clearance is required, such as Active TS/SCI security clearance with agency appropriate polygraph.

Candidates must possess the ability to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance as determined by the government end client.

You must have a proven track record of performing network engineering functions in technically complex environments.

Experience must include hands-on work with LAN, CAN, and WAN technologies in demanding operational settings.

You are required to analyze design specifications and related documents with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

The role demands the scheduling of conversions and cutovers, requiring meticulous planning and execution skills.

You must be capable of coordinating with all responsible users and sites to resolve network or system incidents effectively and professionally.

The ability to translate business requirements into telecommunications requirements for various network types is an essential job function.

Nice to have

Preferred experience in performing engineering analysis of telecommunications alternatives in support of strategic modernization efforts.

Having prior experience assisting telecommunications end users, operations personnel, and telecommunications strategic program management is highly valued.

Practical notes

This is a full-time position based in Columbia, Maryland.

United States Citizenship is mandatory for this role due to federal contract requirements.

An active position appropriate security clearance, such as Active TS/SCI with agency-appropriate polygraph, is required to obtain employment.

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance as determined by the government end client.
