Software Engineer (Full Stack) at Workstream

About the role

Workstream builds an all-in-one HR, payroll, and hiring platform designed specifically for hourly workers, a segment representing 80% of the global workforce (2.7 billion people). The company serves major restaurant brands including Burger King, Carl's Jr./Hardee's, IHOP, KFC, and Culvers. As a Series B startup backed by Founders Fund, BOND, and Coatue, Workstream is expanding its product offerings and engineering team.

Key facts

Location: Lehi, Utah (hybrid, 1-2 days per week in office)

Engagement: Full-time

Salary: $100,000 to $140,000 base (excludes bonus and equity)

What you'll do

Partner with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and fellow engineers to ship well-defined product features
Collaborate across Engineering, Product, GTM, and Customer Success teams, translating technical concepts for varied audiences
Apply test-driven development practices to produce reliable, high-quality code
Stay current with emerging technologies and continuously refine your development workflow

Requirements

3 to 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
Proficiency in Python, Java, PHP, or JavaScript
Track record building full-stack applications with high performance and availability
Solid grasp of programming fundamentals and design patterns
Experience creating scalable systems and working within test-driven CI/CD pipelines
Hands-on work with SQL databases (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB), including understanding when to choose each
Familiarity with AWS or similar cloud platforms
Background designing distributed systems with a holistic view
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Bilingual in English and Chinese preferred

Nice to have

Experience with NextJS or other modern front-end frameworks
