Office-based Video Data Contributor at Workstream
About the role
Workstream is hiring contractors to take part in structured recording and data collection sessions that support AI, robotics, and machine learning research. You will help capture real-world human activities, object interactions, food preparation, movement patterns, and task-based workflows across controlled environments such as offices, kitchens, retail spaces, workshops, and residential-style settings. Most sessions occur at the main office, with occasional travel to nearby filming locations.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Perform guided tasks including object handling, sorting, organizing, cleaning, packaging, assembly, lifting, and repositioning items
- Carry out food preparation activities in kitchen settings: washing, peeling, trimming, cutting, chopping, slicing, dicing, mincing, measuring, weighing, portioning, mixing, stirring, whisking, folding, and kneading
- Operate small kitchen appliances such as blenders, food processors, stand mixers, toasters, kettles, microwaves, and coffee makers under safe conditions
- Use stovetop, oven, or other heat-based cooking methods when session instructions permit
- Plate, garnish, portion, and arrange food for service or photography; package prepared items for storage or transport
- Set tables, serve food, clear dishware, wash and sanitize kitchen tools and surfaces, stock pantry and refrigerator areas, and dispose of food waste per site procedures
- Wear or operate lightweight recording equipment including head-, chest-, and wrist-mounted cameras, motion capture devices, audio capture gear, and environmental sensors
- Start, stop, and verify recording status and quality; reposition or adjust equipment as needed
- Assist with basic equipment prep, charging, calibration, storage, and reset
- Participate in prototype, workflow, or equipment trials and communicate any technical issues, usability concerns, or operational inconsistencies
- Provide feedback on recording workflows, task clarity, equipment comfort, and session experience
- Support onsite staff with basic debugging, troubleshooting, or validation when requested
- Follow session instructions from project coordinators and onsite staff
Requirements
- Ability to work on-site in San Francisco or Menlo Park
- Willingness to participate in sessions consistently each week
- Comfort performing physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and adapt to varying task requirements
- Willingness to wear lightweight recording equipment during sessions
Skills & tools
- Familiarity with basic kitchen tools and small appliances
- Comfort working with cameras, motion capture devices, and audio recording equipment
- Ability to identify and communicate technical or operational issues
Practical notes
- Consistent weekly participation is strongly preferred
- Additional session opportunities may be offered based on reliability, availability, and project demand
- Tasks vary depending on project needs, environment, and equipment setup
