Embedded Software Engineer at Workstream.
About the role
Workstream builds HR, payroll, and hiring software for the hourly workforce. We are looking for an engineer to manage firmware and hardware integration for our devices.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and test on-device software for recording, power, sensors, and storage.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers on board bring-up, interface definitions, and driver development for sensor modules.
- Prototype technical solutions and analyze real-world device behavior.
- Maintain the on-device API and SDK used by our cloud and app systems.
- Create automation and tooling for firmware testing, calibration, and production scaling.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience shipping embedded software on hardware used by customers.
- Proficiency in Python and C/C++.
- Experience with embedded Linux (device tree, drivers, boot process) or RTOS/bare-metal firmware.
- Ability to read datasheets and evaluate hardware tradeoffs.
- Experience using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and debug tools.
- B.S. in CS, CE, EE, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with video/media pipelines, DSP/ISP, or camera interfaces like MIPI CSI-2.
- Familiarity with RTOS such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr and low-level bootloader development.
- Knowledge of protocols including USB, Wi-Fi, and BLE.
- Background in designing APIs or SDKs for internal teams.
- Experience with fleet management, telemetry, or OTA updates.
- CI/CD and test automation skills.
- Experience with consumer or wearable hardware and working with contract manufacturers.

- Compensation includes equity and a discretionary bonus in addition to the base salary.
