About the role
Wonderschool is seeking a hands-on Data Lead to establish the foundational data architecture for our commercial products, government platforms, and internal AI agents. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will manage everything from technical data pipelines to government-mandated data integrations.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create a unified data model for providers, sites, children, and families by integrating BigQuery, HubSpot, Stripe, and internal product databases.
- Organize data into entity tables and pre-computed briefings to ensure AI agents can effectively support provider coaching.
- Manage government data delivery, including Data Hub synchronization, legacy migration, and validation.
- Execute identity resolution and deduplication to ensure accurate records across legacy state systems.
- Establish and document company-wide metrics to enable self-service reporting for operations and success teams.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and lineage tracking while maintaining strict data governance for sensitive information.
- Use AI agents to automate workflows and assist other departments in querying their own data.
Requirements
- Experience as an early or first data hire at a startup.
- Proven track record of shipping data projects in regulated sectors such as govtech, healthtech, or fintech.
- Expertise in data governance, masking, and audit trails.
- Proficiency in writing dbt models and managing complex entity resolution or deduplication.
- Experience using AI agents daily and a deep understanding of making data legible for LLMs.
- Ability to work independently as a team of one or two, prioritizing automation over headcount.
