About the role

Wise is building a global financial network to make money transfers instant and transparent. The Data Onboarding team in London is seeking a senior engineer to manage high-throughput financial event data and maintain the integrity of our internal accounting systems.

What you'll do

• Build and refine data pipelines using a Trino and Iceberg Lakehouse architecture.
• Implement Medallion Architecture to transform raw event logs into audited subledgers and metrics.
• Manage high-volume data streams via Kafka to ensure freshness and reliability.
• Integrate automated reconciliation checks to validate double-entry and balance data.
• Collaborate with finance controllers and product teams to define data schemas.
• Optimize infrastructure for performance and cost efficiency.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through design reviews and code feedback.
• Develop reusable frameworks and documentation to streamline the onboarding of new data sources.

Requirements

• Experience with Trino or Presto and open table formats such as Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake.
• Expertise in Medallion Architecture, Star Schemas, and processing JSON or Avro financial logs.
• Proficiency with ETL/ELT orchestration tools like dbt and Airflow.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and Apache Kafka.
• Strong coding skills in Python, SQL, or an object-oriented language like Java or Scala.

Nice to have

• Experience working in environments with SOX or PCAOB compliance.
• Familiarity with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake and cloud compute orchestration.
• Background in financial flows, accounting integrations, or double-entry ledger systems.

Practical notes

• Starting salary: £111k - £145k plus RSUs.
