Senior Software Engineer II at Wise.
About the role
Join the Middle East and Africa expansion team to drive product growth across the region. You will build and scale onboarding and money movement systems while navigating local financial infrastructure and regulatory requirements.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create, test, and launch features for consumer and business onboarding and regional money movement.
- Connect the Wise platform to local banks, payment providers, and identity verification services.
- Develop and automate financial crime controls including anti-money laundering and fraud prevention.
- Draft technical designs that balance scalability with regional regulatory compliance.
- Review code and design documents to maintain high engineering standards.
- Coordinate with global cross-functional teams to align on technical strategy and product roadmaps.
Requirements
- Proven background as a Senior Software Engineer with a history of delivering scalable systems.
- Deep expertise in backend development and microservices architecture.
- Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of complex technical challenges.
- Experience in collaborative design processes and providing constructive feedback on code.
- Proficiency in using LLMs like claude code to improve development workflows.
Nice to have
- Background in payments, money movement, or KYC/KYB onboarding within MEA markets.
- Knowledge of financial compliance and regional regulations.
- Experience within the fintech or payments sector.
- Proficiency in Java.
