Senior Payroll Specialist

About the role

Wise is looking for an experienced professional to oversee regional payroll operations and maintain high standards of accuracy. You will manage vendor relationships, lead audit processes, and act as a key point of contact for internal finance and operations teams.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Supervise the regional payroll team, enforce deadlines, and provide final approval for pay runs.
• Act as the regional lead and approval authority during the absence of the Payroll Lead.
• Coordinate with Tax, Finance, and People Operations to maintain clear operational boundaries.
• Manage service level agreements and performance for payroll partners including Deel, CloudPay, RSM, and OSV.
• Track regional legislative changes and ensure they are integrated into payroll systems.
• Direct internal and external audit walkthroughs and resolve identified risk items.
• Perform root cause analysis to fix payroll discrepancies and process inefficiencies.
• Lead payroll-related initiatives such as system upgrades, automation, and regional expansion projects.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8+ years of experience in APAC payroll processing within a high-growth product or service-oriented company.
• Proficiency in preparing, processing, correcting, and auditing payroll cycles.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and switch between priorities effectively.
• Strong collaborative skills with a focus on building trust-based professional relationships.
• Detail-oriented mindset with an analytical approach to data-driven decision making.
• Adaptability to work through ambiguity while maintaining focus on long-term objectives.

Nice to have

• Experience with payroll processes for Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and India.

Skills & tools

• Advanced proficiency in Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and charts).
• Experience using various payroll software platforms.
