Whatnot is revolutionizing the live shopping experience across North America and Europe, and we are looking for a Software Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in enhancing our video capabilities and developing tools that empower our sellers and engage our buyers. Your contributions will be vital as we expand our platform and redefine the live commerce landscape.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Develop and implement measurement and observability systems for video performance.
• Create a video recording pipeline to enhance user experience and support Trust & Safety initiatives.
• Design initial tools for sellers to improve interaction during live streams.
• Innovate and advance video features to ensure optimal user experiences.
• Contribute to the long-term video strategy, including defining success criteria and frameworks.
• Lead the development of new tools for sellers to maximize streaming effectiveness.
• Assess and integrate new video service providers into our platform.

Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in software engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven experience with large-scale WebRTC systems.
• Strong ability to convert product requirements into scalable system designs with a user-centric approach.
• Recognized for delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently without detailed guidance.
• Familiarity with AWS and DevOps practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with video streaming technologies and protocols.
• Knowledge of user experience design principles.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in programming languages relevant to video engineering.
• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services.
• Familiarity with video processing and encoding techniques.

• This position allows for remote work, but candidates must reside within commuting distance of our offices in San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, or Seattle, WA.

Compensation Range: $190,000 - $260,000
