About the role
Webflow is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape the technical direction of our Convert product suite. This role involves leading the development of advanced web marketing tools that enable businesses to experiment, personalize, and increase revenue. You will be instrumental in defining and building the future of our AI-native conversion platform for enterprise clients.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Define the long-term technical strategy and architecture for backend systems that support experimentation, personalization, analytics, and conversion optimization.
- Design and enhance high-volume distributed systems and APIs for ingesting, processing, and serving large datasets of visitor and event information with speed and reliability.
- Drive significant platform and data infrastructure improvements to enable future product innovations.
- Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and product engineers to integrate statistical and AI/ML capabilities into real-time backend infrastructure.
- Manage complex, cross-team technical projects from conception through launch and ongoing operation.
- Influence the technical roadmap and strategy across product areas, identifying key investment opportunities and aligning teams.
- Improve engineering standards through reviews, best practices for observability and operations, and supporting tooling.
- Mentor other engineers, contributing to their growth and the overall technical culture.
- Stay informed about advancements in distributed systems, experimentation, real-time data, and AI/ML infrastructure, applying them to enhance our platform.
- Translate product goals into actionable technical plans and execution strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience, including building and managing large-scale backend and distributed systems.
- Proficient in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Go, with a strong understanding of distributed systems patterns and system design.
- Proven experience designing, building, and operating high-throughput, data-intensive distributed systems in production, with expertise in scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, observability, and performance.
- Demonstrated technical leadership on significant initiatives, influencing architecture and execution beyond your immediate team.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product, design, data science, and ML stakeholders to create scalable technical solutions.
- Strong judgment, clear communication skills with technical audiences, and the ability to make pragmatic decisions in dynamic environments.
- Proactive engagement with AI technologies and a willingness to apply emerging tools to improve workflows and outcomes.
Nice to have
- Experience with experimentation platforms (A/B testing, feature flagging, multi-armed bandits), personalization or recommendation engines, marketing analytics, or customer data platforms.
- Familiarity with the statistical principles of online experimentation and the infrastructure to support them at scale.
- Experience with Node.js and TypeScript in large production environments.
