Join Wealthsimple's STAR team, a crucial part of the Book of Record, responsible for generating all client-facing financial documents. This role involves building and maintaining systems that ensure accuracy and compliance for millions of statements, tax slips, and financial calculations. You will contribute to a small team with significant impact, focusing on correctness and scalability.

What you'll do

• Design, construct, and manage pipelines and services for generating client statements, fees, interest payments, and tax documents.
• Define architectural guidelines for the domain, proposing designs and ensuring consistent technical choices.
• Take full ownership of projects, from initial design through production operation and meeting regulatory deadlines.
• Enhance data architecture to improve accuracy, consistency, and scalability of all client outputs.
• Improve code quality through thorough reviews, testing frameworks, and design discussions.
• Mentor and develop fellow engineers through pairing, code reviews, and direct feedback.
• Integrate AI-assisted tools into development while upholding strict quality standards.

Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in backend engineering, building and operating production systems that scale.
• Proven ability to maintain accountability during high-demand periods or critical deadlines.
• Strong judgment in system design and architecture, including making and communicating trade-offs.
• Extensive data engineering skills for large-scale systems, including distributed computing (e.g., Spark).
• Solid experience with Postgres, including designing schemas and queries for bulk data.
• Comfortable working with Ruby, Python, and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow).
• Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development and the ability to ensure quality of AI-generated output.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated financial sectors like fintech, banking, or brokerage.
• Familiarity with tax reporting, statement generation, or financial ledger systems.
• Prior interaction with government or regulatory bodies.
• Knowledge of medallion architecture, dbt, or similar structured data modeling.
