What you'll do
- Take ownership of the reliability and performance of essential web applications that assist in real-time support for autonomous vehicles.
- Manage both the frontend and backend systems, ensuring effective APIs and integration with various services.
- Oversee the scalability of the Fleet Response platform to meet operational demands for reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with engineers across Fleet Response and other teams to optimize the use of web application systems.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers in web application design, technical execution, and best practices.
- Work closely with Waymo's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team to ensure global scalability and high availability of critical platforms.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Over 5 years of professional experience in developing web applications, both frontend and backend.
- Knowledge of web client frameworks such as Angular, TypeScript, and RxJS.
- Proven experience in leading technical designs and mentoring engineers on complex projects over multiple quarters.
- A strong commitment to understanding user needs.
- A deep-seated motivation for ensuring system reliability.
Nice to have
- Experience in bridging technical and non-technical teams.
- Proficiency in C++.
- Background in building high-reliability distributed systems or remote procedure call (RPC) services.
- A curious and investigative approach to problem-solving.
- A history of successful collaboration with SRE teams.

The anticipated salary range for this full-time role across various locations in the U.S. is as follows: $251,000 to $310,000 USD. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as specific job location, experience, and skill level. During the hiring process, your recruiter will provide details on the salary range applicable to your location. Additionally, Waymo employees are eligible for an annual bonus program, equity incentives, and a comprehensive benefits package, subject to eligibility criteria.
