About the role
You will lead the Emergency Response Team to ensure operational readiness and effective incident handling for our autonomous fleet. This role focuses on scaling global response protocols, managing escalation pathways, and coordinating with public safety agencies to maintain safety during critical events.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage the full lifecycle of the Emergency Response Team, including training, standard operating procedures, and the international Escalation Manager Ops On-Call program.
- Refine real-time workflows for field incidents and align emergency protocols with Business Continuity Plans.
- Create and audit site-specific Emergency Action Plans while ensuring facilities are equipped with necessary readiness tools.
- Act as the main point of contact for Public Safety Answering Points and set up dedicated communication channels for various event types.
- Oversee mitigation strategies for severe weather, natural disasters, and geopolitical risks through drills, tabletop exercises, and After-Action Reviews.
- Adjust crisis-throttling tools and paging processes to manage agent bandwidth and prioritize high-impact events.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in program management, operations, or emergency and disaster planning.
- 3+ years of experience managing or scaling global on-call programs, escalation pathways, or large-scale emergency response teams.
- Bachelor degree in Public Policy, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Operations Management, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans integrated into Business Continuity frameworks.
- Experience managing physical safety operations, incident management, or emergency response within a logistics network, autonomous vehicle company, ride-sharing platform, or tech firm.
Nice to have
- Prior work experience coordinating with law enforcement, public safety agencies, city officials, or emergency services during crises.
- Professional certifications such as Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) or Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP).
- Familiarity with FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) or Incident Command System (ICS) frameworks, specifically ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
- Experience with operational bandwidth management, including routing support requests or queue prioritization during localized crises.
Practical notes
- Travel: Up to 25% travel required for site visits and occasional trips to Waymo headquarters in Mountain View.
