Senior QA Engineer

About the role

You are a passionate, quality-focused, automation-driven, Senior software QA engineer who has demonstrable professional experience in tech in an agile setup and is up for a challenge. You come with strong technical skills and experience in implementing automated tests, performance analysis, security evaluations, and you love setting up and testing software solutions built securely. You have command over quality assurance methods, and you are more than comfortable with JIRA, Confluence, Test Case Management platforms, API and UI automation frameworks, AWS (Amazon Web Services) and/or Azure cloud technologies. You have qualified and released numerous large-scale and high-performance cloud-based services and are at ease testing both cloud back-end and front-end technologies. You are inquisitive, you love learning, you know how to get to the right answers even if you do not know them to start with. You listen carefully and voice your challenges and progress to your leaders. You have the knack for innovation; you are driven by the desire to help our customers/partners succeed. The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer in WatchGuard engineering team is perfectly suited for strong technical folks who are quality-obsessed, efficiency-driven, creative, motivated, curious, and good listener, and as you ramp up in your responsibilities you would be critical in helping us achieve the following main objectives.

You will develop yourself by learning more robust processes using agile methodologies and working with globally distributed teams with asynchronous communication across diverse cultures and time zones. Your team depends upon your input and guidance.

You will ensure that you understand the vision, are held accountable, meet commitments, certify high-performance and resilient software, and have strong testing discipline (test coverage traceability, implementation and maintenance of automated test suites, full test ecosystem setup, OSS compliance and vulnerabilities, etc.).

You will mentor other QA engineers and continue to develop command over all aspects of qualifying and delivering high-quality software (architecture review, documentation, test strategy design, test environment setup, automated tests implementation, defects root cause analysis, code deployment, etc.) built on top of microservices architecture (both containerized and serverless) using misc. relational (SQL / MySQL / Postgres etc.) and NoSQL (Elasticsearch / OpenSearch / Document DB / DynamoDB etc.) database technologies.

You will uphold our standards and maturity levels of running world class security services in cloud by testing more secure, reliable, and scalable cloud managed security services (architecture and infrastructure wise).

What you'll do

• Drive the quality strategy for complex, globally distributed features by defining test coverage criteria, risk-based testing plans, and ensuring traceability from requirements to validated releases.
• Build and maintain scalable API and UI automation frameworks that integrate seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines, enabling rapid feedback and high confidence in deployments.
• Design, implement, and execute performance and security test scenarios using industry-standard tooling to validate resilience, scalability, and compliance of cloud services.
• Partner closely with product management, developers, and customer support to translate customer feedback and use cases into actionable test plans and validation suites.
• Lead test execution across functional and non-functional domains, owning defect lifecycle, performing root cause analysis, and driving remediation with development teams.
• Establish and govern testing standards, best practices, and documentation for test artifacts to ensure consistency across multiple agile teams and time zones.
• Mentor and upskill junior QA engineers by coaching on testing techniques, tool usage, and quality mindset, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with SRE and DevOps teams to provision and manage test environments, leveraging cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or Azure to simulate production-like conditions.
• Champion quality observability by defining and tracking key quality metrics, test effectiveness indicators, and monitoring test fleet health in real time.
• Proactively identify process bottlenecks and drive experiments to optimize testing efficiency, reliability, and predictability in fast-paced release cycles.
• Ensure compliance with open source policies and vulnerability management practices by integrating scans and checks within the testing lifecycle.
• Act as the testing subject matter expert for specific products or features, owning the testing lifecycle from ideation through release sign-off.
• Facilitate cross-functional alignment by leading test planning sessions, retrospectives, and knowledge sharing workshops with engineering and operations stakeholders.
• Continuously explore emerging testing practices, tools, and technologies and advocate for their adoption where they provide measurable value.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience in software testing or quality assurance roles in technology.
• Demonstrable experience working in agile/Scrum environments with asynchronous collaboration across distributed teams.
• Strong expertise in building and maintaining API and UI automation frameworks using tools such as Selenium, RestAssured, Playwright, or similar.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure, including provisioning resources, networking, and observability.
• Solid understanding of database technologies including relational (MySQL, Postgres) and NoSQL (Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, Document DB).
• Experience with performance testing methodologies and tooling such as JMeter, k6, or similar.
• Knowledge of security testing practices, vulnerability scanning, and compliance frameworks relevant to cloud services.
• Proficiency in test management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and dedicated test case management platforms.
• Excellent analytical and logical reasoning skills with the ability to break down complex systems into testable components.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate defects, test strategies, and quality metrics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, process discipline, and ownership of testing end-to-end.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent priority shifts and evolving requirements.
