Staff Backend Engineer

About the role

Wandelbots is developing NOVA, a platform designed to simplify robot programming for a wider audience. You will join the NOVA Cloud team to architect the orchestration layer that connects the NOVA ecosystem to the cloud, managing multi-tenancy and third-party integrations.

What you'll do

• Architect the cloud platform with a focus on scalability and extensibility.
• Develop the NOVA Cloud orchestration layer to expand the capabilities of NOVA OS instances.
• Create reliable APIs and integration patterns for external plugins and services.
• Establish service boundaries and multi-tenancy models.
• Manage backend services through their full lifecycle, from initial design to production.
• Improve and maintain our Kubernetes-based infrastructure.
• Implement GitOps workflows and develop Helm charts.
• Standardize service communication, scaling, and authentication protocols.

Requirements

• Extensive background in designing distributed, cloud-native systems.
• Strong ability to define service boundaries, API structures, and extensibility patterns.
• Proven experience building platforms intended for integration by other systems or teams.
• Practical experience with Kubernetes in production.
• Expertise in cloud infrastructure.
• Knowledge of platform-level authentication and authorization, including OIDC, OAuth2, and RBAC.
• Experience with message brokers such as NATS.
• Proficiency in TypeScript backend development.

Nice to have

• Experience building marketplace or plugin ecosystems.
• History of full production ownership.
• Advanced understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
