What you'll do
- Design and create high-quality 3D environments that reflect the artistic direction of the game, ensuring consistency and quality across all assets.
- Collaborate with game designers and other artists to conceptualize and develop engaging environments that enhance gameplay and storytelling.
- industry-standard software such as Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max to model, texture, and light environments, ensuring they meet performance and visual standards.
- Optimize assets for performance without compromising visual fidelity, ensuring smooth gameplay across various platforms.
- Conduct thorough research to inform your designs, drawing inspiration from real-world locations, art styles, and cultural elements to create believable and immersive settings.
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss project progress, provide feedback, and brainstorm solutions to artistic challenges.
- Mentor junior artists, providing guidance and support to help them develop their skills and contribute effectively to the team.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies, integrating new techniques and tools into your workflow to enhance the quality of your work.
- Create and maintain documentation for your processes, ensuring that your work can be easily understood and replicated by other team members.
- Collaborate with the technical art team to ensure that all assets are compatible with the game engine and adhere to technical specifications.
- Assist in the creation of promotional materials, such as screenshots and trailers, showcasing the environments you have developed.
- Provide constructive feedback on the work of peers, fostering a collaborative and creative team environment.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the game industry, specifically in environment art or a related field.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and texturing software, including but not limited to Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, and Substance Painter.
- Strong understanding of lighting, composition, and color theory as they apply to game environments.
- Experience working with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine, with a solid grasp of their capabilities and limitations.
- A strong portfolio showcasing your best work in environment art, demonstrating your ability to create immersive and visually striking worlds.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate your ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with team members across disciplines.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with VR and AR development, and the unique challenges associated with creating environments for these platforms.
- Experience with procedural generation tools and techniques, enhancing the efficiency of environment creation.
- Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Python or MEL, to streamline workflows and automate repetitive tasks.
