Revenue & Accounting Operations Controller

About the role

Versapay is seeking a Controller to oversee revenue and accounting operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our order-to-cash processes and optimizing our revenue recognition. You will play a key part in scaling our financial systems and supporting our growth initiatives.

What you'll do

• Manage the complete order-to-cash cycle, including billing and collections, to ensure precision and adherence to standards.
• Take ownership of revenue recognition processes that comply with ASC 606, providing expert guidance on the financial implications of contracts.
• Collaborate with data teams to synchronize billing and revenue figures with financial forecasts and key metrics like ARR/MRR.
• Develop and track performance indicators related to billing accuracy, days sales outstanding (DSO), and cash conversion.
• Design and implement systems and procedures to support SaaS business models, covering subscriptions, renewals, and variable pricing.
• Ensure smooth data flow between CRM, billing platforms, and ERP systems.
• Lead initiatives for system integration and automation to enhance scalability and data transparency.
• Evaluate and adopt financial technology solutions to refine financial reporting and operations.
• Create and document internal controls and workflows for financial operations.
• Guide and develop a high-performing team.
• Work with Sales, Customer Success, Legal, and RevOps to support business expansion and improve invoicing and collection effectiveness.
• Act as a primary point of contact between Finance and other operational departments.
• Prepare for scaling operations, including new products, pricing strategies, and international expansion.
• Offer strategic insights on cash management, working capital, and operational efficiency.
• Support audit preparations and compliance efforts.

Requirements

• 8 to 12 years of progressive experience in revenue and accounting operations, including leadership roles within SaaS or technology companies.
• Thorough understanding of SaaS business models, including subscription billing, ARR/MRR, usage-based billing, and deferred revenue.
• Practical experience with ERP and billing systems such as NetSuite Suitebilling, Payfac, and ISO.
• Strong analytical abilities with experience handling large datasets and translating operational data into actionable insights.
• Demonstrated success in leading and scaling teams and systems in a fast-paced environment.
• Solid comprehension of the ASC 606 revenue recognition standard.
• A strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
• Excellent leadership skills with the capacity to collaborate and build relationships across departments.

Nice to have

• CPA or a similar financial management certification.
• Experience in venture-backed or private equity-backed growth companies.
• Previous involvement in system implementations or preparations for an IPO.
• Experience within the payment processing industry.
