About the role
Vanta is seeking a Staff Product Designer to lead the evolution of our design system, Alpaca. This role is crucial for maintaining visual consistency and engineering efficiency as our products increasingly incorporate AI and dynamic user experiences. You will shape how our design system adapts to these new paradigms.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Guide the strategy and development of Alpaca, ensuring it supports our growing, AI-focused product organization.
- Expand the design system to accommodate AI product patterns, including chat and canvas interfaces that respond to runtime context.
- Collaborate with product designers and engineers to create, document, and release new system elements and guidelines.
- Develop and refine processes for system governance, contributions, and quality control, especially for AI-generated interfaces.
- Promote adoption of the design system through education and partnership, particularly with teams building novel AI features.
- Represent Design Systems and AI pattern work in cross-functional discussions, explaining system trade-offs to leadership.
- Mentor designers on systems thinking, component design, and effective use of shared design resources.
- Champion accessibility and inclusive design principles throughout the system.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience as a product designer, with substantial focus on design systems, preferably in B2B SaaS.
- Profound experience building and scaling design systems, including component architecture, design tokens, and pattern libraries, with a clear vision for their adaptation to AI.
- Strong visual design skills, including mastery of typography, color, spacing, interaction design, and accessibility.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and help define organizational structures.
- Experience working closely with front-end engineers, with sufficient technical understanding to discuss design-to-code implementation.
- Expert proficiency in Figma, including variants, auto-layout, and managing shared libraries.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including influencing without authority, building consensus, and clearly communicating complex trade-offs.
- A history of mentoring other designers and improving system literacy within a team.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future sponsorship.
- Demonstrates curiosity and sound judgment in using AI to enhance work.

- Experience with AI-driven or runtime-composed UI.
