US-based devops engineer for on-demand sensitive tasks

About the role

We are looking for a part-time DevOps engineer based in the US to assist our development team with critical tasks as needed. You will work closely with our Co-Founder and Co-CEO to manage sensitive operations that require compliance with industry regulations.

What you'll do

• Provide on-demand support for sensitive tasks related to our software development.
• Respond to requests within one hour, unless otherwise specified as non-urgent.

Requirements

• Must be based in the US to access sensitive data in compliance with regulations.
• Availability to be on call and reachable at all times for urgent issues.
• Completion of a comprehensive onboarding process, including a background check and adherence to company policies.
• Must have a company-managed computer available for work.
• Provide at least one month's notice for any travel outside the US.
• Proficient in DevOps practices and tools.

Skills & tools

• Kubernetes: Proficient with kubectl for managing pods, logs, deployments, restarts, and port-forwarding.
• Helm: Experience with values files, releases, and managing encrypted secrets (helm-secrets / SOPS / KMS).
• AWS: Familiarity with IAM roles with MFA, EKS, RDS, ElastiCache, CloudWatch, and ECR.
• Terraform/Terragrunt: Ability to read plans, apply changes, and verify outcomes.
• GitOps workflow: Experience with Git PRs and ArgoCD.
• Debugging: Ability to diagnose production issues using logs and metrics (New Relic, CloudWatch) and communicate findings effectively.
• Strong written communication skills and comfort in asynchronous collaboration with a remote team.

Nice to have

• Experience with CircleCI.
• Familiarity with SOPS.
• Knowledge of the Node.js ecosystem.
• Previous work with SOC 2 and/or HIPAA compliance.
